USC is on the list of schools I have always wanted to go to but for my major/minor (Graphic Design and/ or Photography, not sure which one I want to study as which yet)I'm not sure. I have no idea how strong the program is or if USC's Roski School of Fine Arts is a good choice for these majors. Any opinions? Thanks!

P.S. I asked this under a different thread and didn't get any answers so I decided to start it as a new post. Sorry if you've seen this before.

I'm an alum of USC (school of architecture)... I'd really recommend that you visit, check out the curriculum, professors bios, etc. I haven't really heard people raving about the art program there, but I've never heard anyone say it sucks either, and the connections that you get in the LA area are amazing through USC regardless of your major. Frankly, most of the 'public art' and sculpture projects I noticed around campus were just damned wierd.

My daughter will be auditioning for USC's School of Theatre, BFA in Acting program in February. Does anyone have any experience with the auditions, the program, etc.? Love to know what she can expect. Thanks.

I know you are asking about USC specifically, but if your interests are photo/graphic design, RIT is perfect, except for the cold which might not be to your liking.

Our D will also be auditioning for USC's SOT BFA, Allie's Mom. And we're also looking for audition experiences to read and learn from. We originally wound up on the Musical Theatre site, and found lots of info there, but of course, about MT auditions. If we located helpful threads we'll get back to you with the link info. 'Break a leg' to your D!

I currently attend an art school, and many of art programs such as graphic design/photography are usually the strongest at well known art schools.

But the problem I see with this, and the problem I have with it in school now, is that you lackk the college experience that comes along with attending a regular university like USC. In the end, a major like Photography, regardless of whatever school you come out of, will bring you hardly any financial success. It's a touch business to break into.

I personally would have wished I applied to schools like USC, even though I would have been trading in the name of an art school just to get the name of a major university. I know that Carnegie Mellon which is at the level of USC academically and in general admissions, is known to have a really strong graphic design major. It's at the top of the lists for graphic design, even on top of some art schools.
