My son was accepted February 6th via email to USC–he applied regular decision. There is not mention of merit. Should I assume he will not receive any scholarship money or does that come out separately?
Should say no mention of merit
@CUHootie i think I read all merit offers will be out by mid March. My son did get merit offer on his letter of admission but could be different for RD
Thank you! Based on their website, he should qualify for a scholarship. However, he didn’t list on his FAFSA so I’m not sure if that is impacting merit or not.
My son got in EA and did receive merit with his letter but I do think the RD will come out with the official letters in March
I am really curious how many students that it doesn’t mention merit in their initial letter, actually do get merit scholarships when official decisions come in March? I believe that the EA looks just at GPA and Test Scores for this and if in the end it is the same and doesn’t look holistically I should tell my son not to get his hopes up?
@gottobenc , all South Carolina universities give scholarships based on stats. I don’t think they look much into the holistic part of any student’s application. That said, there is a chance your son can still get some merit scholarship if his stats are on the border.
My daughter was accepted EA with no mention of merit but we received an email last night and she was rewarded merit money. So USC is still releasing $.
Merit awards came out last night along with invite to Capstone
Thank you! My son got Capstone and merit–$15,000 per year. It’s a little less than we thought and unfortunately much less than other SEC schools gave him.
I hear Alabama and LSU give good merit awards.
My daughter got $15,500 a year from UofSC and $21,000 a year from LSU. LSU also gives honors if you have a 30 ACT. Honors dorms were pretty nice too. My daughter decided on UofSC because they had the program she wanted and she wanted to study at Baruch Institute (Marine Science).
Does anyone know if UofSC is open to discussing merit awarded scholarships …we are Out of state
@Denucc55 I would contact your local Admission person and talk to them first to see if there could be an opportunity. If your child was close maybe they can look at their current grades . Its worth a try
Does anyone know when Financial Aid decisions come out? We’d like to decline admission ASAP once we learn this information in case kids doing this help other kids get off the waitlist.
