Hey, all! I applied to USC early action and have been deferred. I wanted to know what you think my chances of being accepted in the regular decision pool are.
OOS- Rhode Island
SAT-1140
GPA- UW 3.7 W 4.25
Major- nursing
Schedule- I have been in all honors classes and 1 AP class, my senior year schedule consists of English, Chemistry, Precalc, EMT votech program, an internship, and health.
EC- member of student council, school improvement team, varsity field hockey
Accomplishments- A delegate for the Future Medical Leaders of Amerca in Boston this past year
Work experience- I got my CNA license April of this year and have been working as a nursing assistant part time (about 32 hours a week) while maintaining honor roll GPA. I though this experience in my intended major would be to my benefit but the nursing program is pretty competitive. Please help!!!
Your SAT is below their average, but I think your GPA and nursing work will get you in! Best of luck!
I think you’ll probably get in.
You seem committed to nursing so don’t give up. If not USC, there is another program out there for you. The best nurses are not necessarily the ones who are the most academic. Just keep plugging away and piling up your healthcare experience. You will reach your goal.
Keep in mind that USC is an indirect entry nursing program . D will graduate in May from Nursing. You are admitted into pre-nursing and then compete with your USC GPA from your first 3 semesters ( on nursing prerequisites only) to progress into Upper Division, which is the clinical portion junior and Sr yr. Having CNA experience is awesome and will help you with clinical no matter where you end up . D became one as well last yr. Hopefully it will help you for admittance into pre-nursing but they only look at USC GPA for admission into the actual Nursing ( upper division) major . Once admitted they will send this info to you with your packet …your experience would probably be looked at much more closely for a direct-entry program but hopefully it will help you with pre-nursing admittance at USC as well . Just wanted to make sure you realize it’s not direct entry …many students don’t seem to realize it coming in and are surprised how hard it is to keep GPA up in this program. Good luck to you! USC is extremely competitive for nursing but it definitely prepares the students well for the boards .
Good luck, literally the only reason you didn’t get in is because of your SAT
