See above.

Does anyone know roughly how many people get into Capstone each year?

I will follow up with financial aid, but does anyone know if a student gets the superlative scholarship and is also the recipient of a department scholarship (tuition reduction +500) if the 500/semester from the department gets added to their award? I know they can’t stack tuition reductions but what about the extra?

There is a scholarship tab in the student’s portal that details all of the scholarship money and your final balance due.

Just Incase this helps anyone:
Accepted OOS EA with in state tuition rate guarantee says worth “at least $86,000” Then a week or so later accepted to honors college and said to watch for merit award that all Honors college freshman qualify for.
Then in 3/10 they released that it is the Academic Scholar- Superlative Award $500 cash award to use toward tuition and in addition, a Scholarship package valued at more than $86,900
Hope this post helps others!

So if a student didn’t receive a letter about Capstone by now, I’m assuming they weren’t offered a spot, right? Since students don’t apply, they only know if they didn’t receive an email, correct?

Thank you!!

That’s what my son was awarded also.

My OOS son received the same as a Capstone Scholar. Very generous!

Thanks - that tab is not on her portal, so I’m guessing she did not receive any merit aid (bummer)

You should see this
”scholarship info”

Thanks - that’s what I figured. Not there on my daughter’s portal

For what it’s worth- my 2021 wanted capstone. She didn’t get in. Didn’t make one bit of difference as she thrived at usc. Plus she has a friend who was in capstone and they just didn’t do the things they were told they’d get to do by being in it. Unless it comes with more $$$ I wouldn’t stress over it.

We were hoping for more than the $40K mentioned in her acceptance letter. She was awarded $40,700 I think. ; (

Sane here. So disappointed.

Its weird. DS applied to USC Honors College, for that reason. So, once he didn’t get into the USC HC from OOS, he/we knew it was out of the running.

But I agree with all you’ve written. Our son’s acceptance said while OOS, get instate tuition. Then, the only thing that really change in March, is , well, nothing.

They say he’s in a 2-year capstone, which from those on this board it isn’t really a thing, I mean it is and it isn’t, and an extra $500. I mean I get it, but it certainly seems to have set the wrong expectation at the time of the letter issued in December.

No harm no foul. We’re just watching all of this unfold

my DD was offered the alumni scholarship -in state tuition+8000. Got into HC but not invited for capstone.

From what I understand, you can’t do both. Capstone is for honor level students that either did not apply or did not get into honors.

Congrats to your daughter! USC Honors is highly selective and very prestigious! Capstone is a less selective group and does not have all the benefits of HC, but it still worthwhile IMO. From what I understand, the benefits are dedicated housing (cohort in a larger school), greater access to research and dedicated study abroad programs. It seems that living in honors housing is the biggest perk as one of the Capstone dorms has a dining facility in it. And I believe the true honors housing is one of the nicest on campus.
