@projectmgr, yes the scale is in place for all SC schools. But, I highly doubt the scale is as high as 6.0, because that would suggest that a student would be taking all AP courses for their entire 4 year. But like I said, USC should adjust your daughter’s gpa to match SC’s ugp system. The only issue is that the 40% OOS will all have theirs adjusted too, and that could push everyone up higher creating this avg wgpa of 4.1 for USC’s freshmen class.
In an AP class in SC a 100 is a 6.0. 90, which is where an A begins, is given a 5.0. My Ds and friends in a magnet programs with lots of AP and top grades had GPAs above 5.0. But since that only applies to AP and IB classes (unsure about dual) is wouldn’t be possible to have 6.0 cumulative GPA. But this is why when you look up stats at USC for Carolina scholars the average GPA is something like a 5.3 or higher depending on year.
This makes sense…thank you again to all for the insight and perspective. Based on other students accepted into SC from our daughter’s school in Naviance, she would appear to have a shot at acceptance; so perhaps there’s something to the way AP classes are weighted that plays a role.
Either way - seems like a campus visit wouldn’t be a total waste of time if Naviance comparisons are a reliable indicator of her chances.
Any recommendations or dinner/lunch places near campus?
