University of South Carolina in state tuition for an OOS student

Hi guys,

I am currently attending a Penn State Berks (a satellite campus) and have applied to USC. I am pretty sure i will get in because i have been accepted to Drexel already which has a lower acceptance rate than USC. USC is my dream school. It is located in a great city, has great facilities, has good academics, and is huge on sports. An added bonus is that it is only 2 hours away from where my gf goes to school. I was wondering if USC is known to waive OOS tuition for good grades/ test scores.

My Stats:
High School GPA is around 3.8
Current GPA at PSU - 3.97
SAT - 1670
ACT - 22

My test scores are not so hot but my GPA's are really good. Could qualify for in state tuition somehow? Thanks guys.

Many of U.S.C’s scholarships qualify you for in-state tuition. Not sure how those work for transfers, though. You should contact their financial aid department and ask what options are open to you. Good luck!

I just looked at USC’s website and it doesn’t look like you can get instate tuition (scholarship, etc) as a transfer student.

Schools tend to really only be generous to incoming freshmen.

If you are applying to a specific department at U of South Carolina, you should contact THAT department directly and ask them about scholarships for transfers…and see if there are departmental scholarships for transfer students. There might be. In addition, inquire about whether OOS transfer students get a tuition reduction if they receive departmental scholarships. It is VERY clear that incoming freshmen get this advantage…it’s not clear what happens with upperclassmen.
