This may be like dropping a grain of sand on the beach and seeing if anyone notices (ie this school/web page doesn’t get much action) but can anyone shed some light on USF’s mandatory meal plans for new freshmen? They say that the 15-meal/wk plan is the most popular, but can anyone say from experience if you really end up eating 15 meals each week, PLUS spending the extra $325 dining dollars? And since you HAVE to take the same plan for the spring semester, and you forfeit any unused meals and dining dollars, what’s the real story? Is it worth it? Thanks.

I’m a student at USF on a meal plan. For freshmen that live in a non-apartment dorm room or suite (no kitchen), you have to buy a level I mandatory meal plan. There are 3 choices–they all cost the same…$1764.71 now. If you stay on campus most weekends, you might as well get the unlimited with the $190 dining dollars included in the $1764.71 price. Even if you go home most weekends you might as well get the unlimited as with the 15 meal plan you only get $135 extra dining dollars. You can use the dining dollars at places like Beef O’Bradys Sports Bar in the new Marshall Student union or at some other fast food stands on campus. If a you are a freshman in one of the apartments (most freshmen aren’t in campus apts.) you still have to buy at least a stripped down meal plan. The dining hall food is actually pretty good, though I know some students are more picky than me.

^Too, the extra dining dollars don’t have to just be spent on yourself only–you can use the dining dollars for your guests meals…dates, friends, family and parents when they come to school. I always treat my family for lunch with my unused dining dollars at Beef O’Bradys when they visit USF.

i believe that USF is an amazing school regardless,
