University of St Andrews Admissions Decisions for Class of 2019?

Hello,
After getting waitlisted by her top choice, my D decided to revisit the college search process and discovered St Andrews. We wish we’d researched it much sooner, as it seems like a wonderful fit for her! She only recently applied (April1 for a May 1 deadline) and the uni says admissions are rolling. So, does anyone have any experience with how quickly decisions are made at this time of year? We live in the US and will have to pay a deposit at one of the schools that has already accepted her by May 1st…
Thanks for any help you may be able to offer and best of luck to all who are going through this adventure!

It is a total lottery at this point as to how quickly they will reply. In the autumn / early winter it can be just a few weeks, but so close to the deadline, it’s anybody’s guess. Fwiw, there was another poster on CC who applied in January and hear back in February, but I’d suggest being prepared to put down a deposit and lose it.

Hi Pelican Mom!

My daughter is a freshman (Fresher is what it is called there) at St. Andrews. We are an American family as well. When my daughter applied she did so in mid December and got a reply mid January. It seems to me that for most American students it takes right around four weeks. I don’t know if it is different this time of the year though. I agree with collegemom you will probably need to put the deposit on the school your daughter has been accepted to while you wait to here from St. Andrews.

Just want to say that my daughter absolutely loves being in St Andrews and it is a perfect match for her! There are a surprising amount of American students. St Andrews has many wonderful traditions; and my daughter has made wonderful friends there. Her courses are challenging but interesting to her. The town is beautiful and there is a beach…what’s not to love!!!
Best of luck with your application. If you have any questions about SA I’ll be happy to try and answer them for you.

Agreed! Thank you!

@keldipow‌ Thank you so much! I may circle back with questions if he gets accepted. It looks like a perfect fit for my D too.

We were just at the Open Day (1 April). They said there were still a few spaces on some courses but that even for international students, admissions had become exceptionally competitive. One course to avoid is International Relations. It is incredibly oversubscribed. So is Sustainable Development.

@keldipow & @collegemom3717 &@excanuck99 My D is in and just committed yesterday! We are THRILLED! Best of luck to you and yours.

Congrats, PelicanMom! I hope your D is as happy as keldipow’s D
