I would be attending fall of 2014. I attend a prominent New England school, very competitive. I predict to have a 4.11 weighted by the end of the year. I have a 34 on ACT and a 4 on my only AP so far. Two seasons rowing, a season of track, and NHS current member. Also consistent member of honor roll. I really would like to study IR at the University of St. Andrews.

And rigorous course load!

Let me give you some real life stats.

My son got into St Andrews last year, for IR.

It is my understanding that they go basically by standardized test scores.

My son got a 34.

ECs are basically irrelevant.

It is my understanding that even your high school grades don’t matter that much.

He had an unweighted gpa of 3.7

He took 14 AP classes though.

It is my recollection that their websight mentions that they want to see a couple 5’s on your AP exams, especially in a field somewhat close to your intended area of study.

He had four 5’s, as I recall.

I think with a 34, you will get in.

He seems to like the school.

And over the recent Spring Break, got to travel all over Europe.

Thank you, much appreciated!

I was accepted into St. Andrews Management program this year, and the best advice I can give you is to write a convincing personal statement and have the minimum grades that they post for acceptance. Your GPA is great, but for IR they require 2 SAT subject tests with 700+ or 2 AP’s with a 5. (The requirements for the rest of the programs at St. A’s are much lower)
Other than that, all you really need are the scores and you are guaranteed an offer of place.
Let me know if you have any other questions about St. Andrews! I went through the whole process of applying and visiting only a few months ago, and although I have decided not to attend next year, it is truly an amazing university.

Thank you, really appreciate the advice!
