University of Tampa - Transfer Questions

My D is considering transferring to UTampa. Does anyone know where they house incoming transfer students and with what type of students? Freshman? Sophomores like her? Also, do they make her first semester schedule for her as a transfer? That’s what I’m getting from reading online…thank you for any and all help!

hi there! so exciting she’s thinking of going to UT! as far as housing, when she gets accepted she will have the option to submit a deposit to enroll not including housing, or a somewhat larger deposit to enroll and live on campus. many transfer students choose to live both on and off campus so that’s completely her preference! if she chooses to live on campus, she’ll fill out the housing application. students aren’t really given the option to choose which building they want to live in, the college chooses whichever they think is best suited to her and what is available. when she submits her deposit she’ll receive a roommate code, so if she knows who she wants to room with ahead of time she can request them and then they can accept it. UT does say that they are not always able to accommodate all requests, simply due to the fact that if everyone wants to live in a quad for example there just aren’t enough of them to go around. but if that’s the case they will most likely keep her with at least one of the girls she requested. despite this, most everyone i’ve talked to has been able to room with the people they choose, if the forms are filled out correctly and all the girls consent to living together. the number of roommates she requests is really the only thing that might affect what buildings she gets placed in. for example- if she has three other girls she wants to room with and they all request on another on the app, if the school has available quad rooms she will most likely be placed in palm apts, jenkins, or another on campus apt style building, as other dorms like smiley don’t have quad rooms. these apartment style dorms are usually in higher demand, so freshman are super unlikely to get them but if your daughter is transferring as a sophomore she has a good chance! as far as her first semester classes, i am not 100% sure how they are chosen as i myself am transferring for fall 2021 and am currently looking into it. i believe there’s a good chance that UT chooses most of those classes, however in my experience the school has been super helpful and tries to accommodate students as best as possible, so i’m sure they would be willing to work with your daughter/hear her input on what she’d like to take if she calls them or sends an email. i hope this helps at all, and best of luck to your daughter wherever she chooses to go! transferring is a bit of a tedious process but it is definitely worth it to go to a school you love!

perhaps i should’ve viewed the date of your post! whoops. a year too late lol. i hope your daughter is happy wherever she ended up! hahah sorry my bad

Lol! I just saw your reply! She’s a junior now and loves it! Was in Jenkins sophomore year, now lives off campus down the road off Kennedy. Thanks for your reply!
