University of Tennessee?

I know it isn't well known for it's academics and it's going to be an ultra-safety for me, but I plan on applying to the honors school? How is it? Is it a bit more... relaxed and not so party-crazed as the rest of the school? I love Tennessee (the state) and would prefer to remain there. Vanderbilt is one of my reaches, but what do you think?

Just give some opinions/thoughts on UT-Knoxville.

Bump. 10char

Nobody has an info about Tennessee? :(

Google has info about Tennessee...

I don't want facts and numbers. I want peoples opinions on it.

hey, I'm going to apply there too, as a safety as well. I assume you are from TN as am I. I have 2 older brothers who each went to UT. It is a very very good value if you have enough personal discipline to work hard. TN Hope Scholarship + any merit scholarships would probably make it close to free for you. You'll be surrounded by students who don't care very much about school, but that doesn't mean you can't succeed. Apparently the Frat people there are rich, spoiled, and obnoxious, but that's just the opinion of two of my very cynical brothers. Dorms I remembered were pretty bad, but that was 8 years ago and im sure honors ppl get priority housing. Knoxville is......well....east Tennessee. Love it or hate it. Big parties are always available tho, if you're into that. That along with cost are really the big benefits to going there over some of the top schools, but Vandy sure is a lot of fun too.

If you do go to UT, you can always go to a high-ranked grad school if you feel you need that for whatever your career may be. Law, business, and med jobs usually care more about grad than undergrad prestige anyways.

Thanks. LOL at East TN. I'm from east Tennessee so that's not a concern for me (I'm from the Tri-Cities).

I've only visited Knoxville occasionally- how big is it? I know it's a city but how large?
