Hello,
I am appealing a decision I received from UT Austin with new information not previously on my application, while also asking the admissions committee to reevaluate my application due to HS dual credit classes significantly lowering my GPA (3.39-3.0).
Please, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
To Whom it May Concern:
I would like to thank the admissions committee for taking the time to review my appeal, I understand this is a busy time. As a prospective student of the University of Texas at Austin, I applied for admission with my intended major being History. Yesterday, I received my rejection letter in hopes of receiving an offer for admission instead; however, I request that the admissions board take further consideration of my application as I highlight new and important information regarding my application.
During my senior year of high school, my mother fell ill with a near-fatal case of gangrene, bringing up questions of death or being maimed and eventually having her leg amputated. During this turbulent time, I became the primary caretaker for my brother while struggling to maintain commitments to my schoolwork, extracurriculars, family, and job, which resulted in a D,C, and B in the three dual credit courses I was enrolled in.
I understand my transfer GPA is not as competitive as my fellow qualified applicants may be applying to The College of Liberal Arts within The University of Texas at Austin, but the 15 hours I took during my time in high school heavily affecting my GPA is not indicative of the hardworking, passionate student I am, which is evident by my upwards trend in grades, while maintaining constant involvement with organizations such as Young Life, and leading middle school boys at Austin Christian Fellowship while working 15-20 a week at D’lites.
I humbly request that my application be reevaluated, focusing on the 23 credits I have earned the past three semesters (summer, fall, and winter) with a cumulative GPA of 3.391, including an 89.4 I earned in Composition I. In addition, my winter-term transcript has been sent, including four credit hours I earned taking Spanish I.
My time at Austin Community College has taught me how to balance schoolwork, extracurriculars and family commitments. I was better able to focus on classes while taking care of my mother and brother, which has prepared me for an academic future at the best university in the Texas, offering me the opportunity to take advantage of the many educational opportunities available, such as UTeach, the Persian studies department to allow myself to learn more about my culture, and a distinguished faculty in The College of Liberal Arts.
My transfer GPA is not the strongest, but I have the drive and passion to realize my dream of studying history in The College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Austin. Austin is my home and I would give anything to have the opportunity stay close to my family while receiving a world-class education, and due to financial constraints, The University of Texas at Austin is a perfect fit for myself. I am serious about my education am frivolously passionate about understanding and exploring our past as a student enrolled in your university, I just need to be given a chance; do not let my past dictate my future.
I have a winter-term transcript being sent right now, did I make note of it in my letter?
my GPA from the start of college is a 3.391
is it good or bad to say I made a 89.4 in a class
I really want to emphasize how much passion I have for history (I know not too many people apply for history, so I want to stand out).
