University of Texas at Austin Class of 2023 Admissions

@vvtuav what exactly did the status update say? Did u just receive it today?

@vvtuav @Suave123 Yes, I’m curious too about what the message regarding Dean’s says. Ours is still “currently in review”.

@vvtuav what do you mean deferred?

Has anyone been admitted to Moody Honors? Has anyone received a rejection from Moody Honors?

@Chief134 My GPA: 3.89 w
My school doesn’t rank.

Thanks for the kind words! I will say that I believe my essays are the reason for my admission. One thing I noticed about me vs. other OOSers is I didn’t have the widespread amount of ECs most do, but the depth in a few main ones. I am from Austin and really talked about what my life in a homophobic town has done to change my perspective, after being a Texan, to being this and that. I was extremely vulnerable and honestly, took a risk being controversial. I even went as far to discuss that if they wish to have OOS students, having people with lower scores-- doesn’t mean the applicant isn’t qualified. I took the ACT 6 times and each time I choked and made mistakes because of my anxiety. I wanted to make sure my application felt like a conversation because I was sick of people putting me down for a number. I may have a “low score” compared to the rest, but I am happy with that, I made it so after reading my essays, the stats were irrelevant.

@TXDad56 I was accepted into the college of liberal arts-IRG

My son was denied for Health Science Scholars in CNS this weekend. There was just a short one-line in his MyStatus portal under the Honors tab that said something to the effect that they could not offer him admission into the honors program at this time. He’s bummed, but he still got his first major choice, biochemistry.

@zlonghorn wow, coming out with essays like that they almost had to let you in…especially into the college of liberal arts! lol congrats!

@UTDad1995Grad thanks for the update. we’re still waiting on Polymathic Scholar decision. I’m thinking we will end up grateful to have first choice major and move on as well

@mrlooki we’re waiting on Polymathic too - I feel like it’s a longshot given how few get into the CNS Honor programs, but fingers crossed - good luck to you!

@dogwood18 thanks…and you too…heck, if they both get in may become friends! will post here the outcome when it arrives

does anyone have any information on Terry Scholars status?

@UTWannabe23

DS received an email on 1/31 stating he moved on to the next round for the Terry. They wanted two LOR’s by 2/15.

Sorry for the late reply. @Suave123 @collegemom111111 @UTWannabe23 here is the message on MyStatus that I got on Friday:

"We’re still reviewing your application for Dean’s Scholars

Thank you for submitting your application to The University of Texas at Austin and your interest in Dean’s Scholars! Given the number of applications we’ve received and the increasing demand for some programs, we find that we must complete an additional review of your application before making a final decision.

We will do everything we can to provide a decision notification efficiently and no later than March 1. Thank you for your patience and interest in UT Austin!"

I know several others who got the same message on Friday, and I know some who did not get an update.

@vvtuav that is the prevalent message for Honors applicants that haven’t heard yet - I don’t consider it a deferral - more like a delay because priority applicants were expecting decision by Feb 1 - I believe that they truly just need extra time to review the volume of applications - certainly is not a rejection because there actually were some rejections sent out.

I’m not sure if any of you guys are aware of anyone being unCAP’d, but at least 4 people from my high school that I know of just received full admission to the major of their choice at UT who had been CAP’d. I’m so confused as to what is going on. These kids had pretty good grades and did not have any connections.

Really? Was it a mistake? Like they were auto admit but got CAPped somehow?

I actually read about this under a different thread. A valedictorian got CAP’d but it did get reversed within a day or two.

No, they were each not close to top 6% but in the top 25%

has anyone else heard of students getting un-capped?
