University of Texas at Austin Class of 2023 Admissions

At 3:41 pm CT my son received an email with subject line “APPLY NOW if you wish to live on campus at UT Austin”. The email goes on to say, “Completing a housing application puts you in line for receiving a housing contract after you are admitted. If you wait until after you receive an admission offer to UT or receive your financial aid notice, you will be applying late.” They also get to keep the $50 non refundable deposit for anyone who applied but is not accepted for admission. Just fyi

The first line of the email reads, “You are receiving this email because our records indicate that you have completed your admissions application for The University of Texas at Austin, but you have not completed an application for University Housing and Dining.”. So, everyone may not get this email. In my son’s case, if he is accepted, we already have a deposit in for off campus housing.

@UTexasEx1986 - ANY news is good news because it gives us something to read and passes just a few more minutes of waiting time … lol… i wonder how much money they make on the non-refundable housing applications …

If 10,000 people (seem reasonable) submit the $50 non refundable fee but do not get accepted or choose other housing, UT gets to pocket $500,000.

@dday666666 “You wrote ours says the same.” Was there a change on the portal or was there something to look for? I was just wondering. I too am looking for subtle changes.

@Freshman19 - I haven’t seen any additional changes the post you are referring to was actually someone replying to my post from much earlier asking everyone if there housing portal had changed and they were letting me know that there’s was the same as mine and others …

Even though I submitted my housing app today, on the portal it is still on my TO-DO list. Is it supposed to drop down to Completed instantly, or does it take a bit to say completed?

When do people usually find out about admissions decision for non-priority aka by Dec. 1? Does this lessen my chances of getting in or just a later decision?

@leftyb10 - it stays there even if you have completed the application as a reminder that IF you get accepted you have to go fill out the contract when made available.

@dday666666 Thank you so much!!!

@dday666666 thank you!

My college counselor was contacted saying that some decisions would be released this week just fyi

when are they released if on Friday? tonight?

@offdablock any more details?

Friday - usually late afternoon …

Question. I’ve read that people get an email asking them to check their status. I’ve only read about this when students get admitted. Does anyone know if this happens with bad news?

I believe that it is any status change - good or bad - the email usually doesn’t come until the next day …

My DS applied almost 2 months ago. Still shows “application for admission is complete”. Should we expect to see the status change to “in review” before we hear back on acceptance? Fyi, applied in-state from international school abroad to McCombs.

you status change online will change first - the email goes out after that. So the first indication will be on your my status page - hence, refresh refresh refresh … lol

T Minus 7.5 hours until, hopefully, we start seeing posts with acceptances … good luck to everyone today …
