I have applied to and got accepted into biochemistry for both UT Austin and Trinity University. All of high school I have been planning on going premed to become a doctor and recently I am having doubts. With that, I will likely be changing my major at some point in college to something like business or engineering. From what I have read, it seems it would be harder to change majors at UT, but their business and engineering schools are the best in the state. At this point, I am unsure which college I should choose.
Also, I have read mixed reviews about the social life at Trinity… Does anyone have any first-hand experience at Trinity?
What kind of college experience do you want. UT is a huge state flagship while Trinity is small LAC. They have so different vibes that it would be impossible to compare them.
My daughter is a freshman at Trinity. She loves it there. Very different feel than a school like UT. One of the things we liked about Trinity is they do not let you declare a major till your 2 year. Whuch is perfect for someone unsure of a major. That said if you want to do engineering you really have to start plaining your freshman year for it. Trinity the classes are smaller so I think there is more of a personal touch
My best advice is visit Trinity on one of the accepted student days. Both are great schhols best of luck to you. Honestly I don’t think you would regreat either school.
Normally, I would call this decision a no-brainer…but you’re absolutely right. If you’re looking to change majors to Business, UT-Austin has very little flexibility, unless you have a near 4.0 GPA. If you’re not sure what you want to do then you want to choose a university with flexibility. If you wind up hating biochemistry, your admissions chances to McCombs Business is 10% and the average GPA is about 3.9. In other words, if you have a 3.5 GPA, you’re stuck in biochemistry, or you’re forced to Transfer to UTSA or Texas State if you want to be a business major.
Definitely UT. Great network, opportunities, and student life. Hook’Em Horns!
