I want to go into engineering. People around here [not CC...my location.] don't really speak much of UT engineering, but apparently, it has a great engineering school.

I'm in-state and comfortably in the top 10%, so I'll be accepted. [FYI, I'm a junior.] Gotta love the 10% rule here.

Which fields of engineering is UT strong in?

It would definitely be a relief to not have to worry about extravagant out-of-state tuition costs. I've always wanted to go to a "prestigious" school, but the further I get into this whole college thing, the less I feel the need to have that name on the diploma, or the need to be able to tell people, "I'm going to [MIT/Caltech/UCBerkeley/other top-of-the-line big-name engineering school.]

I've been to UT; from what I saw, the campus is quite nice. I didn't see it while school was in session, unfortunately. Austin is a great place, and much closer to San Antonio [my favorite city in Texas] than Houston [my current location] is.

Apparently, I've pretty much almost talked myself into going to UT. If I could get some opinions on their engineering program, I'd greatly appreciate them, though. :) Anyone here planning on going to UT?

I'm pretty astonished that you are in-state and haven't heard how outstanding UTs school of engineering is. Definitely one of UTs strong programs.

Words of wisdom regarding UT - while being in the top 10% will get you accepted to UT, it doesn't necessarily mean you'll be accepted to the college of engineering, and if you are really set on UT, get your housing deposit in on September 1st (yes, before you even submit your application!).

Yeah, I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that one of my best friends had parents that went to Georgia Tech, so that's all he talks about, basically. :) Oh, and my dad and his constant MIT rambling.

Good point about being accepted into the college of engineering. I think I should be ok, though. Just gotta keep working hard.
