University of Texas at Austin

Hi, I am an international student. Does this school give financial aid or scholarship to students like me? I do not live in Texas or America. Thanks a lot.

One more thing. As I read on their website, I have the sense that they won’t give aid for international student. But some of my friends who have the same circumstances like me said they got in with financial aid. Can you explain this? Thanks again.

They dont.

UTexas doesn’t give aid to students coming from abroad.

Where did your int’l friends live? Did they go to Texas schools? When was this?

Did they get merit scholarships? At one time, Texas was giving more merit scholarships, but now they give few.

I had a student get aid at UT (from Asia). It was 6-7 years ago, though. He also ended up as a research assistant and even entered grad school with funding. Great kid.

marvin100 But at that time, he/she had lived in Texas, right? Or he lived in his country and got aid from UTexas at Austin? Thanks.

Did not live in TX & didn’t have TX residency afaik.

Here are the types of aid for UT. Some departments give aid to students if theyhave met qualifications, usually upper classmen years (junior-Senior).

Here is a list of Scholarships.

Read the scholarship types FAQ page as well.

UT does not give out much money to attract high calibur students. They don’t need to.

Also, having just read your post about Princeton and Harvard, your credentials, as an international student, are not strong enough for admissions to UT. UT is highly competitive for in state who are not in the top 7-8% of their class, and exceptionally competitive for out of state and international. That said, it also depends on what major you are applying to, which must be declared on your application to UT.

That was about the time that UTexas changed its policy to become more “needs based” for instate students, and therefore they eliminated most merit scholarships, except for 40 Acres and maybe an odd few others.

Ah, that makes sense, @mom2collegekids
