University of Texas at Dallas

Any experiences with this school/has anyone visited it?

They sent me a cool holograph that had nothing to do with the school or the postcard it was glued to.

Hope I helped!

Surprisingly selective for a "third tier" school. From what I've heard, it's very good in tech.

brother goes here. Got here on a full ride.

Good technical school. Lots of money from Texas Instruments. Very possible to get a scholarship.

Easy to get research opportunities if you ask around.

waterview apartments recently built...

I visited it a couple of times (once was on their dime, as I was a finalist for their McDermott's scholarship).

It's a very good technical school, and they give out some pretty nice scholarships. It was originally the property of Texas Instruments, then got turned into a grad school. They then let transfer undergraduate students in, and finally freshmen undergrads. That history definitely affects the atmosphere, IMO. It's very office-like, though still definitely a college. No dorm rooms, only really nice apartments (I have pictures if you care to see them.) As a comparatively smaller and newer school, traditions and clubs and other things aren't as well established, so you really have a chance to make a difference. Also, the location is pretty nice (definitely not Waco, where I go to school, lol).

I got a REALLY nice scholarship there (though not the McDermott), but finally decided the atmosphere wasn't for me.

Thanks!
I got a scholarship offer and the cool hologram. However, from what I've gathered it seems to be more technical oriented. I'm looking more into the liberal arts, so I'm getting the feeling it's probably not the most ideal school for me. Any experiences with the liberal arts there?

UT is very good in engineering department...no so much in Liberal Arts

I agree, if you are interested in liberal arts then UTD is most likely not for you. I am seriously looking at UTD because of it's Neuroscience program. Also, I am a finalist for the McDermott scholars program this year. I visited last year and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I really liked the honors program and apartments. This school is amazing for those interested in math/science areas like computer science, engineering, etc. Especially with the scholarship opportunities. For me, the main dilema is their lack of a French program, though I will definitely study abroad if I attend. Hope I helped. I've visited once and will visit again in March for interviews.

That helped a lot, seeing as I have not been able to visit. Thanks!
