University Of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA)

Hello! I'm planning on applying to UTSA, and I noticed that there really aren't any threads focused on answering questions that pertain to UTSA, or threads for UTSA where people can discuss the application/admissions process in general. Soooo here it goes!

My son went to UTSA last year as a CAP student. He really loved the school, met lots of friends, joined a frat, etc. It was a hard decision to leave UTSA and go to UT Austin. So far he says he doesn’t regret it. Just my observations as a parent-- I think it’s easier to meet people and the classes are easier at UTSA than at UT Austin.

Thats great! Does any one know how dorms work? Like are they coed? I think I would like a coed dorm, that has lots of parties. Do those kind of dorms exist at UTSA? Also does anyone have any tips for the application process. I want my application to be as strong as possible!

And is it possible to play a sport like football, and keep up with all of my classes, AND have a social life?

My sister goes to UTSA, and I can tell you the dorms are coed. When we went to drop her off at the beginning of the year her next door room mate was a guy and the next was a girl. So the floor setup is even coed.

bump bump bump

Anymore information on UTSA at all? The application process? ANYBODY?

Sorry I can’t help with the application process-- my son applied as a CAP student. From my son’s perspective, the dorms were great. He was at Chaparral, lived with 3 guys. He became good friends with 2 of his roommates. He also became good friends with the girls who lived on his floor. I also think, from talking to my son, that he was very pleased with the social life at UTSA.

I Know I’m probably going to get bashed for this, but what is the CAP program?

Coordinated Admission Program. It is offered to students who apply to UT but who are not initially offered admission because they are outside the top 8 to 10%, depending upon the year. If they take certain courses and maintain a certain GPA, they are offered admission to UT in their sophomore year.

For the admissions process does anyone know how the committe review works like what they are looking for exactly?

Also when it says must meet SAT score minimum of 1100 or 100 for the bottom half class ranks does it include the writing?

The UTSA website answers questions about admissions in great detail. The CAP program has a web page. Lots of information about housing. Studying the UTSA website will answer 99% of your questions.

Visit UTSA for a day. Or spend a morning at Texas State in San Marcos and the afternoon at UTSA.

About dorms… There is Chaparral, Laurrel, and San Saba (just opened this year!). I’ve toured all of them and they are all super nice and cozy! Chap would have to be my favorite because it is closest to the Cafe and has a pool! They are co-ed but I believe they restrict girl/guy roommates. Given that every suite has its own bathroom, coed floors isn’t really an issue. And about parties Robert, you would probably have to go to off campus housing for those. (campus police is pretty strict on noise and what not) /:

To apply to UTSA you need to apply through Apply Texas. After that students need to make sure
1. submit official high school transcripts sent directly from the high school to
  2. submit ALL official college or university transcripts (if applicable), including Dual Credit, directly from each institution,
  3. submit all ACT or SAT scores (if applicable). Scores must be sent directly from the testing company. Scores appearing on high school transcripts will not be accepted.
  4. submit a $60 application processing fee
(This is on the website [The University of Texas at San Antonio](404 - PAGE NOT FOUND | UTSA))
That will complete your app and in roughly 4-6 weeks you can go onto ASAP with your ABC123 and check your status.

StressedSenior14, committee review means that your did not meet the benchmark requirements to be admitted to UTSA. The committee looks at a bunch of aspects to see if UTSA would be a good fit for the student. They look at class rank, academic rigor, test scores, extra curricular activities, and if I am not mistaking, they ask for an essay and 2 letters of recommendation. (my friend was put on committee review and she is graduating with Honors this semester!) It’s nothing to be scared of. Just show UTSA your true colors!

But yeah like alanhouston said, almost all of these answers are on their website. Just go to it and search what you wana know about in the search engine.

Hope this helps! GO RUNNERS!
