University of Texas--Austin Admissions

@nosyla‌ Hahah I’m really surprised myself! I guess it could be because of a great essay or just maybe because not many international students applied from where I come from. And plus I have a great SAT math subscore.

Accepted: Physics in CNS

3.74GPA
17th/77 rank
4 APs, never took a test though
SAT 1980 (730 reading, 670 math - super score would give me a 730R, 720M, and 670W)
Fifth-year senior (Didn’t grad for good reasons though)
Crazy essay that talked about WHY my SATs were low, class rank was bad, and GPA. (I was ranked #1 in my class after being home-schooled my whole life. I tested into school about 1.5 years early with an IQ test, so I was a sixteen year old senior last year.)

Cheers!!

Realizing how fortunate I am when I’m seeing people with stellar stats get rejected

We have until May 1 to accept the offer, right? I’m waiting for other universities to release decisions.

Just got accepted into McCombs!
International from Brazil
SAT 1910/1320
SAT II: Math I 720, Math II 700, Biology E 700
Rank: 1/105
A lot of volunteer work in Children’s Hospitals and Animal Protective Association, tutoring and debate clubs
No recommendation letters

Anyone still waiting on their decision? My D has not heard yet.

@Collegemom93, sorry for you, but it’s comforting to have company! My son hasn’t heard either, and we are ready to hear so that I can leave the computer and focus on other things in my life! I just got through to the Austin admissions office. The guy I spoke with said that there were still some applications that had not yet been processed because there are so many, and that some might not hear until next week! I noted that on the UT Facebook page it was posted yesterday that all undergrad decisions had been released, and asked if that was true, and if it is just a matter of the logistics of updating, and he said yes. That’s all I know. Seems like everyone else my son knows at his school who applied to UT has found out.

@Collegemom93 , @texasjayhawk , as of last night my son had not yet received any notification.

Still in review, in-state…

Accepted!! Loving it.

Good Essays.

Congrats to those accepted.

Son was accepted in September, but just got accepted to Petroleum Engineering yesterday. All I can say is it’s been a weird year. With my older kids, there often seemed to at least be some logic as to why a particular applicant did or did not get accepted. This year? Sheesh! I do think it’s a problem for kids whose high schools don’t rank. I’m not sure how the university evaluates those students in comparison to others, and often the students and parents don’t really know how the kids stack up. At our HS, kids get class rank for the first time in the beginning of junior year, and many parents are initially shocked because they had no idea how tough the competition is.

@Lauramoody Congrats! When did you find out? I’m still in review on MyStatus :frowning:

Still in review

My nephew is still in review – applied to Moody RTF, OOS, a nervous wreck. His dad spoke to UT admissions this morning and they said they “hope” to get everyone notified by Monday.

@legalpeach‌ I wouldn’t get your hopes up… seems they keep setting dates they’re unable to keep

@skdoss very true 8-|

@skdoss So true! I’m an educational consultant myself and I have been down this road 1,000 times with anxious kid clients (and with my own kids a few years back). I’ve told my nephew and his parents this too, but as you can imagine they’re not really hearing me, with the confusing info that’s come out of Texas’ admissions office in the past 24 hours. So I’m crossing my fingers like a good hopeful auntie and praying for great news soon!

@legalpeach – as an educational consultant, what do you make of the strong candidates who have shared their excellent stats and rejection status on here? It seems absolutely crazy to me. The process in which outstanding students whose schools either don’t rank or are especially competitive end up with nothing after holistic review blows my mind!

We are from California. My son has SAT 2130, Super Score 2230, GPA 3.91, Internship for over 1 year etc. He applied for business. He is rejected. I am really dejected and depressed. I have lost confidence in the system.

Looking at all of the strong candidates that got rejected… I’m beginning to assume I was rejected as well. Will post stats.
