University of Texas--Austin Admissions

I applied to Civil Engineering and I’m freaking out. I’m OOS from a highly competitive school so my ranking is in the 20%.

@135pipe How did you apply twice?

@avantgardee‌ I’d say you’re in

so guys is it going to be around end january early february, im guessing when they release the next wave of admissions?

@avantgardee, your strong SAT and particularly strong SAT Math section will help you. Your academic record appears odd to me. Where are your math courses? I would have expected AP Calc BC and a 5 on the test based on your SAT.

@lots2do I’m taking Calc AB and Phys II AP this year. I’ve been in Geometry K, Algebra II K, Pre Cal K, Chem I K, and Phys I K.

Made semester A’s in all of them for both semesters. K means honors.

I knew my rank screwed me over, so I took the SAT three times until I aced Math. I got a 740 first time and 770 second time.

So what are my honest chances?

Don’t quote me on this, but your actual chances might depend more on your location than your record. Do you attend a rigorous high school known for regularly sending students to top universities? Are you in Texas’s largest (and wealthiest) cities like Houston, Austin, Dallas, or are you from the underrepresented South (Rio Grande Valley, Brownsville, Laredo)?

@Fredjan Public school in Houston. Average financial status. About 50% is economically disadvantaged so I stated on the resume that my father made about 20k less than he really did.

Seriously? You significantly underrepresented your income to UT - AND you’re bragging about it here? You may want to familiarize yourself with the university’s Honor Code and Core Values, which include honesty and fairness toward peers and community. Where does a fraudulent application fit in?

@avantgardee‌e should you be accepted to UT, and they confirm all the information you supplied is true and correct and it is in fact NOT, your acceptance would and SHOULD be rescinded. Shame on you!

@FloMoMom @nosyla I mean he got a 20k bonus and that doesn’t count toward INCOME. What you MAKE doesn’t technically equal your INCOME.

@avantgardeee-- a bonus is not part of salary as it is in addition to salary, but it does count toward income and will be included on your father’s W-2 in his total earnings.

@jennie11 Does it matter if I’m not applying for financial aid?

I don’t see how that discrepancy will affect @avantgardee‌.
Given the information, you sound a likely for UT Engineering, but then again anything could happen.

Is it bad that I haven’t gotten a decision from the college of fine arts yet?

@avantgardee‌e-- I’m not an admin rep and won’t claim to know if it matters since you aren’t applying for aid. I was just clarifying that bonus income is definitely income and probably something you should be aware of.

UT caught my eye when I was a freshmen but then I became a senior and didn’t qualify academically

I’m still waiting to hear back from UT and A&M and it’s killing me haha especially considering my chances aren’t great
