University of Texas--Austin Admissions

@imthereal Congrats for getting in for an OOS candidate!! If you do end up going - you may join an amazing group of great ChemE’s (that I know of). Everyone I know of who was accepted would never strike you as the uber-competitive type.

My son got admitted to ChemE too as OOS. His stats was SAT 2140 2180 SAT 2 math 800. 4.0 GPA, 12 APS etc. In 2180 he got M 770 and W 770. That is what I think got him in.

In 2140 He got M 800 CR 650 W 690. Some thing some how did the trick. We never did the amount of research people do in this forum.

@midclassdad Congrats to your son!! Austin is a great city!!! We are still waiting to hear about Honors and all the out of state schools.

@imthereal my son has experienced a collaborative atmosphere at UT - not super competitive. There will be some kids who are competitive, but the class mostly works together and supports each other.

However, looking at the stats of those admitted to ChemE this year, even if the kid’s are not competitive it will be competitive to stay at the top of the class (many classes have a grading curve). Congrats to all who were accepted.

@comptechmom‌ @EventHorizon32‌ Thanks to both of you for your insights on the ChemE atmosphere at UT! I definitely love to be around people who are smart and motivated; I think the vibe rubs off on me and motivates me to do better. I’m also glad to confirm my suspicions that UT has a supportive and friendly student body! I find it wonderful that such intelligent people are willing to collaborate for the common good, even at such a stellar school.

I’ve been active on the UT19 facebook group and have found the people to be so friendly, funny, and quirky (in a good way). I am really hoping that I’ll be able to afford OOS tuition and join the ranks as a Longhorn!

Looking forward to seeing all y’all ChemEs next year!

Trying to register my son for orientation, but I can’t get in. Seems like all 7500 freshman are trying to register at the same time and it is crashing.

I tried since 10:00 am. No luck. Anyone able to get in ?

We can’t get in either.

That’s just great !!!

This web site has been closed for maintenance.

Says closed until 5:00 pm.

Looks like UT Orientation registration traffic crashed their system. Now the message says “closed for maintenance and opens at 5.pm today”.

@collegePapa does the orientation website still have a time? Here’s what I see:

Alert: The orientation registration system is experiencing technical difficulties. We are working to resolve the issue and will post updates as they become available.

I really can’t sit by the computer all day, constantly checking to see if their website issues are resolved. But I’m afraid to do anything else because I don’t want to miss out!

@FloMoMom The site shows the options of dates but actual registration fails with Server Error 500. It does not show that 5pm time at all anymore. I too can not sit around their website all the time.

@collegePapa. It seems all the early days are taken !!! Only the last 2 sessions are open. I guess those who kept trying since 10:00 am got in a took the spots.

@helicopter8 I was trying from 9.58, my UT login session also got disconnected. I called the NSS, they said that still errors are coming and it is not open, they will post in Twitter and Facebook. Thanks to you now, I could register my D for last but one session.
Actually they posted that the system is down and will be open at 5pm. So how can they open it before that with out any announcement?

This is such an unpleasant experience. If you say open again at 5:00 pm, you should keep your word and open at 5:00 pm. The students are at school, and the parents are at work. Not everyone can sit in front of the computer and keep hitting “reload” at their browser.

@helicopter8 On top of that NSS representative was telling on phone that every one is seeing system error, the server is down and keep looking at twitter facebook etc etc to find when the system will be up… Hmmm… makes you rethink your choice of the school, isn’t it??

Ahhhhhhh! My son has not even tried to sign up. I think this is the best evidence yet that he is going to be an Aggie. So, good luck everyone. And Gig 'Em!

@collegepapa Yes, it does make me rethink about the choice of school… The web site goes back to “It should be open again on March 4, 2015 at 5:00PM.” If you are not happy with your selection, I would suggest you go back at 5. I have a weird imagination that the earlier sessions were intentionally blocked now, so that people and register after 5. The “Server Error” did not make sense to me…
