Because it’s bad a$$.

What ComicLover said. :P.

is it pretty hard to get into UT austin, if u choose to major in INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS??
PLZ PM me…
its something im really wanting 2 do.
=)

^^I’d guess it’d be hard for anyone to really tell you that much about it at this point. It’s a new major. And besides, you just have to get into the college of liberal arts…

lol you cannot even declare international relations as a major yet.

well, from what everyone at the University told me so far, you should be able to declare it as early as the first day of school (fingers crossed). The only hindrance is the small fact that they have no faculty to teach IR-specific classes yet…

Maybe. Right now you can’t.

And yeah, there is only one class at the moment. I’m guessing they’d start with you taking government classes since there are a ton that deal with international relations. And/or add the IRG label to already existing government classes.

I’m pretty sure thats what they were saying, that the IR major is going to have alot of faculty from the gov’t department, and there is an IR “field” in the government major so thats always an option…

that or they could just let some of the professors teaching at the LBJ school of foreign services teach some of the classes…that would be cool.

Also, if you check the requirements, government makes up a surprisingly little portion of the required hours. It is pretty much a lot of languages and sociology/economics/history

well i hope i get into UT Austin with that major =)

Wow I don’t like the requirements at all. The minor thing kinda sucks. Can’t pick what you want.

Also, the new liberal arts site is getting on my NERVES. I can’t find anything anymore. :(

one of the cool things that I really like about the major that sets it apart from all of the others is the required semester studying abroad. That is definitely something different than your standard majors.

That is true. Hopefully they have extra financial aid for that, though.

Yeah studying a semester abroad would be interesting, likely done probably in ones junior or senior year.
