I was just admitted to ut Austin and I plan to go there. Unfortunately, I forgot to do the merit scholarship page on apply texas before he deadline. I was wondering if I still have a chance to get a scholarship with high test scores and decent gpa? Also with about 160 volunteer hours and being president of several clubs.

I don’t think any of us would know. Many schools are VERY strict about scholarship deadlines.

What will your parents do/say if you don’t get a scholarship? Will they refuse to pay? or perhaps they may not be able to afford to pay? The loss of a multi-year scholarship could mean paying an add’l $40k+ over 4 years…that’s a lot of money.

What are your parents saying? If they will not pay for UT w/o merit, then you better find a back-up school that will give you large merit.

I know a student who missed his school’s scholarship deadline and his parents refused to pay the extra money. I don’t think that’s unusual.

I didn’t get the scholarship application done on time, but I submitted everything else. My parents are fine with paying sticker price but this is kinda frustrating since I’ve worked so hard in high school and want some reward over someone who’s worked half as hard as I have but still gets into ut. A ton of students from my school get admitted and I’m one of the higher tier students based on test scores and gpa so really want some merit aid for that.

Yea I know I’m mad at myself for that and I just wanted to know if there was anything I could do to be able to get financial aid. I realize it’s completely my fault

UT accepts only the top 7% of Texas high school students as auto-admits, so it’s not likely that a “ton” of students from your school have been admitted yet. Most UT students are smart, top-tier students with many leadership and EC activities. Merit aid is highly competitive, just like admission to UT. If you’re expecting to be rewarded with more scholarship money than other students, you may want to look at other schools where you’ll stand out more. Start researching for outside scholarships. Pay attention to deadlines and details. And consider yourself fortunate that your parents can pay the full cost of your education.

About 85 kids from my school go to UT out of 600… Many more actually get in but choose elsewhere. I just want to do everything in my power to cover up the mistake of not applying for scholarships.
