Did everyone get an email yesterday, Wed Feb 26th, with the subject “Canfield BHP: Admitted Student Lunch March 8th”? If anyone is planning to go, what do they plan to wear? Business casual? “Business smart”, Suit and tie?
@parentof3kids No, my son hasn’t received the email. He supposed to receive an email (formal invitation and RSVP for Discover Canfield BHP) on 26th Feb. We are still waiting on it.
I forgot something, we received the event invitation on a postal mail on 15 Feb. We decided to attend the meeting. My son has a plan to wear Business suite for this event.
Is this for the lunch of for Discover BHP?
@parentof3kids it may depend what part of the state you are in. Austin area admits had a new admit dinner on February 21. I know there was one in north Texas in January so perhaps this is in a different part of the state? My son is on a BHP chat and students were saying that an invite to a lunch went out to students in the Houston area. As far as what we experienced at the Austin event - a couple of current students attend, a couple of recent graduates, about 12 -15 local admits and someone from BHP staff. It was an opportunity for staff, recent, graduates, and current students to share information about the program and answer any questions. The email specifically said attire was “Snappy Casual” which required me to google!
We live in the Austin area but the email invited my son (and one guest) to the March 8th lunch. My son’s email didn’t specify the attire. Location is The Carillon Restaurant at 12:30.
FYI… my son received an email invitation on Discover Canfield BHP from the McCombs BHP program.
I am now wondering if they are going to cancel Discover CBHP
Not as many people invited so probably not considered as large a risk. But we shall stand by.
Curious if any OOS students have received any BHP merit scholarships this year.
I am an OOS student from the northeast and was originally planning on attending Discover BHP. My family and I were quick to cancel the trip once we found out there were cases very close to where I live and the international airport I would have been flying out of.
There are relatively few cases in Texas; however, testing is very limited and community spread is hard to track. I believe UT cancelled in-person classes. and so I would expect that Discover BHP would be cancelled as well, but I have not heard anything.
@tchit87 It was cancelled. They sent email out to people who RSVP’d letting them know it was going to go on line and they would send out further information with links. Everything at UT has been cancelled. The third Travis County confirmed case was UT President Fenves’s wife!

Discover Canfield BHP: Online, Not On-Campus
In accordance with coronavirus (COVID-19) recommendations from public health officials, The University of Texas at Austin has suspended campus visits, residence hall tours, Admission Welcome Center tours, and in-person events, including prospective and admitted student events, until further notice. Because of this, the Discover Canfield BHP event scheduled for March 28 will no longer take place on campus, but instead will be conducted virtually.
The virtual version of Discover Canfield BHP will include a welcome from me and information from current students in the program. We will provide additional details about this event in the coming weeks. Our staff are also currently working diligently on additional virtual information sessions and Q&As to be offered while in-person campus visits are suspended.
You can find all updates and guidance from the university related to COVID-19 at utexas.edu/coronavirus.
If you have questions and would like to speak to a staff member directly, I encourage you to email us at CanfieldBHP@mccombs.utexas.edu. You can also reach our admissions staff via email — Sarah Shields, Enrollment Manager, at sarah.shields@mccombs.utexas.edu or Josh Shandera, Admissions Coordinator, at josh.shandera@mccombs.utexas.edu.
Again, welcome to the Canfield BHP community. We’re disappointed we won’t be able to welcome you to the Forty Acres in-person at this time, but we look forward to seeing you online soon!

Since letters of recommendation are optional (although required for honors consideration, which I am applying for in addition to my regular application), if my school sends them through naviance shortly after November 1st, will I still get reviewed for priority admission?

I understand that BHP had limited time to get their online presentation ready, but we were really disappointed with the online Discover BHP presentation yesterday. It felt like it was mostly the same information that you can readily find on line. It would have been nice to have some professors speaking. Even if they could have had a taped class that was part of that, it would have been helpful.
It was good to have the student panel but it’s just not the same as being able to meet those students in person and ask specific questions. I wonder how this coronavirus ‘lockdown’ is going to affect people selecting schools. In the next few weeks there will be all of these virtual visits and I wonder if people will just end up accepting based on how well each school was able to throw something together at the last minute. This was the first ‘virtual’ event we’ve attended so I am curious to see what the other schools have in store.
@srparent15 I would love to hear more about your daughter’s decision process and choosing between Texas and Michigan. I don’t know if you are even if this website anymore. But I have a family member that me be choosing between CBHP and Ross and would love your input.
