University of Texas Financial Aid/Scholarships

I decided to make a new discussion regarding financial aid and scholarships because it seemed that the subject was being brought up a lot in other threads.

I know of Texas Exes (deadline Feb. 15) and University-based scholarships, but how hard is it to get a scholarship from one of those sources?
And, on another note, has anyone’s Financial Aid tab changed to say “your file is being processed. please check back in two weeks”? What does that mean?

Texas Exes scholarship is fairly difficult to get in normal circumstances.
Last year I volunteered to evaluate the pool of scholarship applicants for our local chapter (over 900 admitted students). I’d say only about 1% of those got the scholarship money.

For first year students…There are also Colleges (Cockrell Engineering, etc) and Departments (Plan II, etc) that do offer some scholarships–from $1000/yr to $25k/yr. But there are generally few available. I’ve mentioned before, as have others, in other threads, UT is notorious for offering VERY little merit scholarship aid particularly for OOS students. But they do happen, so you might just be surprised come late Feb. I noticed the last few years that some Cockrell students were awarded scholarship offers earlier than Feb.

Seems like there are many awards for continuing students in the $1k-2k range some students might overlook as well.

BHP offers scholarships to both in-state and oos. My D received $12,500/yr last year. Another student at her school received the Terry. But no one else received anything, to her knowledge.

Mine changed to check back in two weeks as well! Does this mean we will be hearing soon? I already have my FAFSA processed

@nadiaSW That’s what I was wondering… Hopefully so! It seems to be referring to just Financial Aid and not scholarships, but I could be dead wrong.

Mine’s also changed, but according to their financial aid notification chart (link below), freshman won’t be receiving theirs until early April. I’m hoping they just haven’t updated it since I’ll be religiously checking my CASH these next two weeks… or until ‘early April’.

I sent an email to Finaid. They replied two weeks later asking for my UT EID to review my file, which I promptly
gave to them.
End of story so far.
What does this mean…?

Is that message “Check back is two weeks” turned off for anyone? And do anyone see actual aid/scholarship amount?

@Bader316 I really just want to email and say “whoops I just checked the website. It says April/March. Sorry for the
mistake.” Because that is the realistic date. See if they say anything? Because it has said check back in two weeks since Mid-December. The math there…

UPDATE: They emailed back and said my file is complete. They are just waiting until March to start the awarding process.
Looks like the website was right in the first place.

Does anyone know how BHP Scholarships are awarded? How many, etc?

Last year, BHP started awarding scholarships very early. I understand that they are running behind this year. I don’t know how they decide on who gets one. All the business 40 Acres finalists, however, were awarded one prior to the 40 Acres process. There seem to be a lot awarded. I want to say about 25% of the class, and it includes OOS students. Max award last year was $12,500/yr.

Thank you so much for this info. My son will be a BHP student for 18-19 and we were just curious. Are you notified via My Status or mail?
