University of Texas vs. Texas A&M

Hey Everyone, I am trying to decide between University of Texas Plan II Honors and Texas A&M Honors College. I am from the north east, and even though everyone tells me the cultures are completely different between the two schools, I am having a lot of difficulty choosing which one is right for me. I am a conservative, i really like math and physics, but i also like history and political science. I am pretty bad with foreign languages and creative things like art and music. I love sports and being outside. I am a HUGE football and baseball fan. I also enjoy horseback riding, field hockey, and softball. I was thinking of trying to walk on to the equestrian team at A&M, but i could not do that at UT because they don't have a team. I am also interested in greek life. I am a pretty shy person at first but once i feel comfortable I am really outgoing. One of the only things that i don't like is spoiled kids. I am greatly opposed to people who think they matter because they are rich. Sorry if this sounds like a bad life summary for an online dating service, but if anyone knows a lot about both schools and thinks they know which one I would like better please let me know! I am so confused right now and could really use some good advice, Thanks!

My brother goes to A&M and he loves it. It would probably be a good fit for you since you are a conservative, lol. UT is in Austin, and is pretty much considered the liberal part of the south. I think you should visit both and see which one you like better. A&M is located in a suburban area, while UT is located in a big city. Both schools are great, though! But pretty different, and are huge rivals. Good luck on your decision!

It would definately be best if you could arrange a visit to both since this is a major life decision.

Based on what you’ve said, however, I would say A&M is the better fit.

As NeedAVacation remarked, A&M sounds like a better fit for you (I would say much better). At UT, only a minority of the kids are conservative, though many of those are in the Greek system. However, in the UT Greek system, there are quite a few kids (not all and not even saying a majority) who may be perceived as the entitled type that you claim that you want to avoid.

Also, bear in mind that the A&M student body is very much pro-military and Christian. If this does not describe you, e.g., you are more of a libertarian type of conservative, it might not be such a great fit.

I would not turn down an opportunity to be in Plan II. It offers a very elite educational experience. Austin is far preferable to College Station- in every respect.

My vote is for UT-Austin.

UT-Austin, unless you want to be a cattle rancher or farmer.

informative- Last I checked A&M turned out a lot of very capable engineers- for starters.
