I am interested in going into marketing/advertising. Does anyone have any knowledge as to which university is better for this field? Also thoughts on the comparison of campuses/social scene/housing/prestige?

Any thoughts on the comparison are helpful, I have to choose between the two!

UT-Austin’s McCombs is a top 5 business school, whereas UF is unranked.

UT’s prestige is much better in general.

Both are known for it’s social collegiate feel.
Both are sport powerhouses.
Both have similar weather.

You should go with UT-Austin.

Have you visited either school?

Are you instate for either school?

Will your parents pay for either school?

Why are you looking at public schools in two different states? You’ll get in-state tuition from one, but probably not the other. These schools aren’t much different from each other (both big, well known state schools with party reputations and they spend more on their football programs than their academic counterparts). Just go wherever is cheaper so you don’t have any debt at graduation.

They can afford to spend more on football because they win. Football funding has nothing to do with the academic funding. It makes a large profit at both schools that funds most ther sports.

*they spend more on their football programs *

Misinformative…UT and UF do not spend on their football programs. Their football programs pay for themselves AND rheir football programs pay for OTHER things.

This is correct. Longhorn football, for example, generate the most revenue of any college football program. On an average year, they bring in around $100 million in revenue, which can be used to fund research, improve facilities, etc.

And for bluesclues99: I’d go with UT. Being fairly knowledgeable and having visited both schools, I can say that they are almost identical in feel (strogn football and basketball programs, roughly same number of students, party schools, large alumni bases, etc). UT, however, has better academic prestige and Austin has more to offer than Gainesville. Keep in mind that if you take the right steps, you can get in state tuition at UT, while it is near impossible to get in state tuition at UF (spoke to an admissions counselor about it)

Go to UT. UF is a hovel.

Kids have two parents. Many people can get in-state tuition in two different states; I think the OP is able to do so.

UT >>> UF

it seems like a very easy decision to me if money is not a concern.

Thank you for everyone’s inputs! Although I do live in florida and my parents both attended UF tuition is not too much of an issue, I know they are very similar I was just looking for differenciating factors. This helped a lot, thanks again!

Do you get Bright Futures if you go to UF?

A little bias in shown in post 2 (and others). For marketing, UT is ranked 12th, while UF is 18th. Not a big difference. Other factors, including where the OP wants to reside after graduation, should be given proper consideration since in many ways these schools are clones.
