University of Texas

I'm a junior and was wondering what my chances at UT are. I'm taking the SAT June 6th, but on my psat I scored a 1550, and am expecting a 1600-1650 on my SAT. I am in AP English, with honors math and Spanish, and regular US History and Physics. My GPA is 3.3. I'm an Eagle scout, and thats about it. What do you think my chances are?

What is your class rank? If your top 8% in your class, they have to accept you.

^ its actually top 10%

If you aren’t in the top 10%, with a SAT score of 1650 and 3.3 its going to be a reach especially with not all classes honors.

Ok just thought I’d get this a little up to date. I got my SAT scores back a couple weeks ago, and got a 1790. My class rank is in the top 15%. I know its probably a reach, but do I have a slight chance of making it in for the Fall of 2010?

Well I just saw that governer Perry signed a bill that would only let 75% automatic acceptance or whatever (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-texas-austin/753351-has-governor-perry-signed-bill.html?highlight=University+Texas</a>) So do you think that increases my chances just a bit?

The new bill isn’t effective until next year (HS class of 2011). I just visited UT and they were extremely adamant about how difficult it is to get in if you aren’t in the top ten percent and you live in Texas. I went as part of an honors preview with a slew of brilliant students (who scored 1800-ish or higher on their PSAT) and the admissions officers were telling the students who weren’t ranked that even they would be reaches into the school.

What I’m trying to say is, you’re going to have to write some awesome essays.
