Anyone accepted to either the 5,6, or 7 year Accelerated Dental Programs this year?? Just wondering... I'm going to attend the 6 year program, but I feel lonely cause there aren't any discussions about it on the CC site. hahaha Anyone??

Got accepted in 5 (2+3) year Accelerated Dental Program but because of the high COA for post graduate years still debating. Any idea how much fin aids are available for post graduate years (3 in my case)?

I heard its extremely difficult to get any financial aid during your years at dental school… I think it’s just scholarships and stuff. But anyways, congrats!!!

Hi ASBA123 and KChang95,

Congratulations!!!

Would love to know about your experience going through the accelerated dental program at UOP. Both positive and negative…

How many or what % of your classmates from the pre-dental program got admitted to UOP DDS program?

Would you recommend the program for high school graduates?

Thanks
KKothuri

Hey guys,

I am currently a 3+3 pre-dental student at UoP. To the OP and anyone else, if you have any questions regarding the process or anything else, go ahead and pm me. I was in your shoes last year and had a hard time deciding whether to attend uop especially due to the high tuition, but I think its worth it if you put your 100% effort after coming here.

Congratulations guys!

To Kkothuri,
I talked to an UOP admissions counselor and she told me that students in the pre-dental program has the advantage of a guaranteed interview to the UOP DDS program!

Also, great job to you guys who got in because the major is extremely competitive! Opportunities like this don’t come often! Many people (like myself) are dying to get off the wait list and get in! Speaking of wait list, is it even POSSIBLE to get off for the pre-dental program applicants? Or should I just give up my hopes and focus on my other options?

I am currently a 2+3 pre-dent student at UoP. I am going to be brutally honest. Only come to UoP if you are dead set on pursuing dental, especially if you are content with going to Dugoni. The requirements for getting even an interview at the dental school is very very minimal. Most pre-dents here are able to scrape by without doing anything much. Those who choose to gun for other dental schools usually get in because they are extremely smart/capable (UCLA, USC, Tufts, Penn, etc…). Classes are not especially challenging if you come from a competitive high school. I have to warn you though. If you come for the program and decide to scrape by and attend Dugoni, make sure you, or your parents can shell out $$$ for Dugoni because most likely you will get no scholarships. IMO, the program is decent. You will most likely take all your classes with all the pre-dents and pre-pharms. There is not really anything much at UoP besides academia. Social life centers around Greek life or your own circle of friends. Have a target around, Chipotle, Taco Bell, McD’s, BJ’s (just Google map UoP). Stockton is pretty shady, so off campus is pretty much a no-no. Most ppl go to Berkeley or SF to have fun. Parties off campus here and there. Overall, UoP is bearable if you’re only coming for the program. I don’t even know why some people come here if they are not here for the professional programs…Tuition is skyrocketing too. Luckily, I only 5k per semester because I worked my butt off in high school.

If anyone wants my high school profile (vague recollection):
3.9 unweighted. 4.7 weighted.
Took 11 AP’s. Mostly 5’s. Two 4’s.
2300 SAT
800 SAT II’s (bio, chem, physics, Chinese, 2c)
Decent EC’s.

Just finished my freshman year at UoP with 3.94 GPA. I have a lot more info/insights. Post here and I will try to answer.

i have been talking to many people about applying for this program next year, and i am extremely confused because i have heard from both sides of the arguement. Does getting accepted to UoP’s 6 year program guarantee you a spot for dental school at UCSF?

I read one of your comments saying that if anyone had questions about the dental program. I was wondering if you still have to take the DAT if you get accepted into this program?

Also, what was your gpa and act score that got you into this program?

Hi There:

My S got accepted to Pre-dent program-- no word yet whether it’s 5-, 6-, or 7-year. Do you attend school year round if 5 or 6? Is there any room for electives at all, or is it all requirements? Are most of your classes with other pre-dents and pre-pharms, and does that skew the grades? Thanks for any insight. He’s still deciding…

My S was accepted to Pre-Dent program, but not yet told 5, 6, or 7 year. Not sure how they decide that, and if you can influence… What’s the big difference that you see between 6 and 7 year program? Is there any time for electives, or all requirements? Are most classes with other pre-dents and pre-pharms? Is there a dorm where most these folks live? Grateful for information cuz he’s still deciding…

@nimittwashere I will definitely say no it does not guarantee getting into UoP or any other dental school for that matter. If you’re in the 6 year program and you do well enough to get into Dugoni, then you’re probably competitive enough to get into a lot of other dental schools. Mind you, I think the classes at UoP are relatively high level for undergrad so it’ll give you a solid foundation.

@suleman1 All information can be found here http://www.pacific.edu/Admission/Admitted-Students/Pre-Dental-admits.html Yes you have to do the DAT! You apply to Dugoni like any other dental school and of course, you can apply to as many schools as you like.

@avide96 Hi I’m hoping you got all your questions answered? Hope you chose UoP!

@wondrousworld You can get all the info here http://www.pacific.edu/Admission/Admitted-Students/Pre-Dental-admits.html I would say there isn’t much of a big difference, you can get summers off but say you’re really into your research or greek life or whatever, then I guess you can stay the extra (4th) year. Personally, that is not for me. If you need any more info, let me know. You have enough time to do all your GEs as a 3+3. Yes, all the science classes will be with other pre-dents, pre-pharms, biology and biochem majors as well as the randoms who take them as a 3C GE requirement. Most pre-dent and pharms live in the Quads. I’d recommend the WER community of the JJC community. Also, congrats to your son! I’m sure he has heard back by now.

Hi @l4dygaga !
I am a high school senior and I am very interested in the UOP 2+3 year Pre Pharmacy program, in which the undergraduate requirements are very similar to the pre dental program. However, I have a lot of concerns about it, particularly about being able to finish all of the prerequisites in two years. I fear that I will not be able to take classes like organic chemistry and biology in the same semester while maintaining a 3.0 GPA. I wanted to ask what your experience with this was? Were you able to complete all of the prerequisites in two years? Also, if you have completed them, where you able to gain acceptance into the UOP Dental School?
