Never been to private school, I've been set on going to a UC for a while.
However, there are the finances..
-_-
Do privates really distribute that much more money for financial aid, that would be significantly different than the cost of going to the UC? But then again, my dad's argument is that in the long run it might be better financially to go to a private since UC's and stuff are going to be harder to get into your classes and you might have to stay there longer and spend more money.

Somebody would to qualify or go against this theory? It's sounds pretty legit to me, but I really want to go to a UC, though yeah, I understand, an education is an education...

Which would be the better choice? I'm going to visit both next week, first time visits.

i would not go to UOP if you paid me. visit them and then get back to us, but in all i really dont like uop and dont know why other people do either.

ucsc is beatiful and a great location. non biased either, i accepted to ucsd

WhattheFriction, I definitely would choose UCSC over UOP; I have visited both schools; something about UOP made me feel uncomfortable. I can’t tell you why, just got a bad vibe about that school. JMHO tho.

UOP is in Stockton which is much more boring compared to UCSC :(. You’re pretty far from the bay area >.<. At least UCSC is like 30 mins away from San Jose :)

thats so mean XD but kinda true :(. Anyways I would MUCH rather go to UCSC than UOP. I never thought UOP was worth the money for it’s prestige(I’m very very picky when it comes to privates since it costs a hecka lot of money, I wouldn’t even consider USC). UCSC is a much better looking campus, Santa Cruz in general is a very nice town(despite the pot problem) and also a very different lifestyle to get adjusted to :). Stockton is hot as >.<. Plus theres a beach ^^ and boardwalk. Also if you wanted to transfer to a different UC, it’s easier to do a UC to UC transfer, since you’re in the UC system already(-.- least thats what i’ve been told)

Shibykin, really? I thought it was easier with the community college transfers, like they were given priority over UC’s?

So is it like priorities like this:
CC>UC>Private?

lol.

Yeah, i’m leaning with UC, but ugh, it’s just the cost and stuff. >_<
I don’t exactly mind community college, I just really wanted to go live at college and not live at home…

i have a bias towards ucsc since i’ve visited the campus. It seems to be in a better location, and the social life is a lot better. In addition is polisci strong at UOP?

I thought UOP was only strong in science and ehh on everything else. Anyways whatthefriction it goes like CC>UC>CSU>Privates/Out of state. I’d stick with either choice over CC cuz it’s only going to get harder to get in the UCs later on :(

sigh
Thanks for the information Shiby and wahine.
I’d really like to go to this school but if UOP provides more finaid, ahh, …
I don’t want to burden a lot of money for my parents and for myslf in the future and with the interest rates and debts and ah…
Thanks though.

I believe that UCSC will cost you around 30k (Housing at UCs is around 10-11k whole year and you pay around 3-5k per quarter for the classes/textbook/yata so 25-30k :O). and UOP cost 50k+ <.<(Don’t know how much Privates really are). Unless you’re paying less than 30k per year for privates, then UCSC is obviously the better choice :)

I think your dad is right about the financial problems you might run into in the public school system in CA. I heard it was more so in CSUs but I’m sure UCs were impacted just as much. Once you receive your financial packages for UCSC and UOP, that might help with your decision! But go to the college you’ll be most happy at! That’s what I plan on doing… (:

I’m waiting for UOP’s decision so I might be on the same boat as you ;o Except, I applied for the pre-dental program… which will make me go to UOP more (cause I’ll be a dentist in 5~7 years!)

So a student called yesterday and we talked for a bit, and she did admit that the bad part of the whole thing was the location when I asked, but I did like what else she said.

Rigorous curriculum
One on One teachers

But I want a big school though, lol, the whole collegy-feel. Star’ , I guess we just gotta wait :)

I am from a town near Stockton and what has been said about it is true. It’s not a great town. But my friend’s sister goes there and I went on campus one time to have lunch with them and its like a whole different city. It is beautiful and extremely nice. However, it is too close to where I currently live so I didn’t even apply haha. Definitely consider it but for me UCSC was a better choice and I am most likely be attending. Check both schools out and make the decision best for you. Good luck.

Yeah, the campus does look beautiful from the pictures.
Ahhh…Lol and I live near stockton too, Not too close to it, but in the general central valley.
