There is no discussion for this school in the alphabetical listings. Does anyone have any information about it?

Fine school; strong liberal arts, music, & pharmD programs. Beautiful campus (Ivy covered walls, rose walkways), but located in Stockton which is nothing to write home about. But, campus is somewhat off to itself. Merit scholarships available. D-1 athletics. A safety for some, but a first choice for many.

It's on my son's safety list, but if he likes it, it could be a first choice.

I think UOP is a school that you have to visit. Many years ago I visited and I loved it. I applied but my family could not afford it. I thought the school was beautiful. I was coming from an industrial city in the Los Angeles area so Stockton didn't phase me. It might have even been a step up.
Many years have past and I now live in a beautiful Central Coast town and the kids I have heard of who have gone to UOP haven't stayed. They hated the town.
It all depends where your coming from.

I have a friend whose older sister is there for Pre-pharm, I believe she chose it over UC's for that program. I don't know the financial situation though. I believe the sister likes it; she comes home every weekend to Sacramento (the family is very close). It's respected in our area, especially the law school downtown (McGeorge), where Justice Kennedy taught-- I know several grads of the law school.

I have heard of their law school, and I know they have a music conservatory. I didn't realize they have a good pharmacy department. That would be something to look into.

mom60, what did they hate about the town? Several of the schools on my son's list are located in towns that don't appear to be very interesting.

note:

the Law school is located in Sacramento. UoP also has a dental school located in San Francisco.

About the accelerated dental program at UoP, do you know if they'll rescind admittance if you get a few B's second semester (if you had straight A's first semester)???? Someone please reply!!!!!

Try to visit. I was wowed by the website, but was not as impressed with the campus itself, once we saw it. Of course, we visited on a blistering hot day in July, which knocks points off any campus visit.

My kids were most impressed by the building that was shown as part of the campus where Indiana Jones was teaching in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'....

Even though it is not in the northwest, there has been a bit of discussion about UOP on this parent forum thread: NW Oregon Visit Report

Wow! I can't believe that 2 yrs ago I posted on this thread about UOP. And now 2 yrs later my son is finishing up his freshman year there. Wierd. Never thought he would apply let alone end up there.

I know the post is almost a year old but if Mrs P or anyone else want to know why Stockton is a turn off here are some links:

UOP though is a wonderful school and as long as you can deal with it being in a not so nice location you should really give it a look.

I have a much younger brother (way younger) who went there and has done fine. He is interested in politics and from there went to Georgetown for some special government program that was very selective (don't know what it was). Bottom line it has not hindered him, and of course the Masters mattered more later.

someone please answer my question above!!!!!!

sputnik - you will probably get the best answer to your question by calling the school, not here.
