University of Utah Class of 2025 — Regular Decision

We haven’t received and update on fiancial aid either, when I go into the portal it shows nothing so you are probably ok. We are further down on the list I suppose.

I believe this is true, our financial portal says Received (Additional information they requested) and “initiated” depending on a review of FAFSA and will let us know if they need any more documentation. We received these quests via email. It went to my DDs personally email and the Utah one. If you don’t hear anything, assume everything is fine.

My son did! It was the last scholarship application for him. He is so glad to be done! What did you think of that essay prompt?

It was the same exact essay prompt (the VERY exact) my DD did for the University of Chicago, just fewer words.

Seriously? That’s funny.

You weren’t kidding! I just googled it and found the old prompt. I’m actually glad he didn’t know that when he was writing his essay. I do wish they had given them more words! It was hard for my son to stay within the 500 word limit.

Personally I liked the prompt and thought it gave them a lot of latitude to write about whatever resonated with them.

My D wanted to write about how to pick your nemesis, but we decided that didn’t follow the prompt. She ended up writing about time being her nemesis. What did everyone else pick?

To anyone curious, here is the prompt:

(500 words) To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, we cannot be too careful in the choice of our enemies. History and art are full of heroes and their enemies. Tell us about the relationship between you and your arch-nemesis (either real or imagined).

My son picked Procrastination - he really had a tough time with this one. He envisioned this elaborate villain, complete with a personality, and he just couldn’t accomplish what he wanted with it in just 500 words. He makes video games, so I think he was storyboarding in his head from this prompt.

As proof that procrastination is my kid’s nemesis, they’re taking advantage of the extended deadline to submit! And writing about something else.

That was the prompt last year too. So did UChicago copy it from Utah?

My kid wrote about his acid reflux

I believe it was Chicago essay prompt in 2013 ish. Long before Utah was using. I think this year Chicago had as 1 of their prompts the option to pick a prompt from past years. Looks like swimwiththefishes daughter was very lucky/selected well:)

She did get lucky there, but it was a much better essay at the UChicago Length. She had to do quite a bit of editing for Utah one. I don’t think it was as strong.

They extended the deadline? When did they announce that? We thought it was due yesterday.

Is it too late to apply for the honors college? I assume it is.

The email we got March 2nd definitely said the dealine was March 4th. The recommendater had until the 7th to submit a letter.

My son just got an email about the deadline extension a few minutes ago. Oh well. At least it gives recommenders a couple of extra days to upload their letters - they now have until March 9th.
