So tired of Utah changing/pushing back all their deadlines (especially merit notification). Too bad they aren’t pushing back their priority housing deadline until AFTER they finally notify about merit.
The fact that they haven’t changed the housing deadline with the change in merit notification is leaving me feeling a little sour on the school, to be honest. I understand that things are all different this year, but asking for a nonrefundable deposit before we know what the cost will be to send a kid to school there just seems over the top. I did send an email to our area admissions rep and haven’t heard back.

If you scroll down it says March 7.
And yes, it would be nice if the housing deposit deadline were extended.
@HankCT Honors Deadline was February 1 for entering students.
I have a little info for those waiting to hear about merit before the deadline for LLC housing on March 10. I was told by our Regional Admission Counselor over email that we will not be hearing about merit until around March 15th and the deadline for the nonrefundable deposit will stand as March 10th.
In my opinion, it is really unfortunate that they are making the decision to not extend the LLC housing deadline beyond March 15th. Changing the merit release date on their side without changing the commitment date on the consumer side erodes trust.
If you do not make the housing deposit before the 11th - before hearing merit, does that diminish chances of on-campus housing all together? Does the honors program aid in any way? $130 is a lot for my family and I to loose and Utah is not one of my top schools.
According to the Utah housing website, March 10 is the priority application date for themed housing and living and learning communities. April 1 is the regular priority application date for other housing.
The non-LLC housing priority deadline is April 1: Apply & Reserve – Housing & Residential Education
So if you register by then you will still get on-campus housing, though it probably won’t be the nicest rooms, which go to the LLCs. OTOH many of those rooms (eg Kahlert) are more expensive than the standard heritage commons rooms anyway ($7500 vs $6000 for a double for the year), with Lassonde being the most expensive option. So if money is a major constraint you may prefer the cheaper options anyway and in that case there isn’t as much point in paying the LLC registration fee. Compare the charges by room type on the linked files here: Rates & Your Housing Account – Housing & Residential Education
Just as a note to those applying for Eccles, if you win you will be pulled from whatever room you had previously selected, since all the Eccles scholars live together in their freshman year.
@loveorangecats - thanks VERY much for the update on the Merit Aide announcements…sigh, very disappointed.
We just paid the housing deposit. It seemed worth taking a chance so he could hopefully get honors housing. Praying for good merit aid now because he really wants to go there!
Did you pay $335 upfront with $200 refundable?
I paid $135 non refundable. I think the $200 refundable is after she picks a room around April 1st.
I do feel sorry for you all. Pre-COVID there was a strict Dec 1 cutoff for merit and honors priority and you found out everything in late January. Merit outcomes were very predictable based strictly on UW GPA and ACT score. Then Eccles applications were due in mid-Feb with interviews in mid-March with notification by March 31.
That was all so much simpler. I hope the U will return to something like that, but at this point I don’t know how many juniors have been able to take the SAT or ACT, so I don’t know if merit will become predictable again (they never published a simple merit table like Arizona even though it was pretty clear they had one). However there is still a big advantage to telling people the full details of what they will pay at the time they are admitted.
I think everybody want one would have vaccinated by summer. I would assume SAT and ACT will go back to normal then.
Ugh. I keep hoping and checking. D even got a letter in the mail from them today and I was hopeful but no… they are just trying to get her to pay her enrollment deposit and sign up for orientation
Right there with ya… rather distracting from daily life - but I keep clicking on that dang piggy bank icon multiple times a day.
Hello! My son has been admitted and invited to the business scholars program. Earlier tonight I looked at his financial aid page and was shocked to see the tuition amount. Full OOS tuition. We’re from So Cal. From what I’ve read on this thread, the financial aid pages haven’t been updated to reflect the WUE tuition rate, is that correct? Also, they haven’t updated with any merit aid, is that also right? Thank you!
No way. My kid did, too!
You are correct. We’re still waiting on WUE and merit aid. On other sites people are saying they heard after March 15th from AOs.
We just paid the $130 housing application fee! Now hoping for merit aid!
I attended the UU “Admitted Northern California Student Event” last night. There were about 160 attendees.
Here is what I got. The 3/01 acceptance notice includes the financial aid information. You just need to logon to your UIC account and check. It assumes your kids are paying OOS tuition. My daughter’s package includes $18000 unmatched COA. Seems this the difference between WUE tuition and OOS tuition.
The WUE is considered a scholarship. If you apply before 2/01 and your unweighted GPA is >= 3.0, the WUE is automatic. No need to worry. The official notice will come around mid-March.
