Anyone familiar with U of Utah, son is interested in this school for business. He is an avid snowboarder so the location is very appealing, but we are not familiar with the school beyond their website and college board etc. Thanks for any info.

My son is looking at a challenging BioEngineering degree AND scholarship/fin aid package in the western states (we are in the Seattle area). Utah has a reputation for the quality of that degree - cool. He’s been accepted but we do not hear about the fin. package 'til April sometime.

Like you, we wish to find out more.

As non-members, he’s wondering if the LDS thing would limit social opportunities (doubtful in a town/university that size). His other options so far are: Cal Poly SLO and UC Santa Cruz - keeping hopes up for UW, Rice and Harvey Mudd College (each are long shots though as his GPA reflects his high school motivation more than his ability)

Side note: he has been very involved in FIRST Robotics and wants to get into Neurobotics and NeuroProsthetics as a career but he is very well suited as a career academic/research project fellow - advanced degree(s) are expected.

Please share your findings if you dig something up outside of this forum - thanks :)

My son’s very good friend goes to U of Utah. He LOVES it there. He is a sophomore. He never saw the campus until move in day and couldn’t be happier. It is very reasonably priced even for OOS. In fact, it is my understanding that after the first year of paying oos tuition, if you renew your driver’s license there and take summer classes(at in state tuition prices), the University sees you as a resident and then you pay in state tuition. It is quite the bargain! Call financial aid office and discuss that with them. I wish my son had chosen U of Utah, he’d have a lot less debt now, and so would I! Hope that helps. Oh, and his friend is an avid skiier and outdoorsy kid!

I was just there for a meeting and I can say it has a very attractive campus with easy access to downtown via light rail. Apparently the student body is roughly half LDS, and a lot of students don’t live on campus.
