University of Vermont vs. Colorado

Hey! Im trying to decide between UC-Boulder and UVM. Money is not a factor since they both gave me a lot of money and about the same amount. My main factor is location (I live in MA). Vermont is a little closer to home but Colorado would be a new experience for me (completely diff location than MA). Also im majoring and psychology and their is little difference between them in that aspect. Both have good social scenes too. What do you think?

eh... I'd go to Vermont because CU-Boulder is my hometown college, and the only really decent department it has is engineering, which has nothing to do with what I'm going to be doing.

Adidajed, When you say you got a lot of money from UVM for financial aid, are you talking merit, or did you get a financial aid package too? My son was accepted back in November (with some merit) but still has not received a financial aid package. It is supposed to be mid-late March according to their website. We submitted the FAFSA on January 4. (Good luck with your decision by the way! My son isn't sure where he wants to go yet either. Has 6 to choose from so far, but needs some aid so needs to hear on that from most schools still.)

CO is really far from MA, so you'd need to fly back and forth from college every time. Airfares can add up, especially over 4 years, so you may want to consider that cost, which wouldn't be included in the financial aid package. Just another thought.

Both schools have similiar scenes, but you'll get a little more attention at UVM. (This isn't an assumption based on size, but anecdotal gatherings from ~10 i know at each school)

The skiings better in CO, if it matters, but academically, I'd say its basically a wash.

I have the same question as summerbreeze. Their merit aid OOS was terrible for me, at least.

UVM...Awful OOS aid....the worst of the schools my child was admitted to. They are one of those schools that "awards" you a huge Parent Plus loan. I've never heard of someone getting a good package that included a large parent plus loan. And as we know, you don't need them awarded by anyone--you can get on the internet or go to the bank and get one. One school gave him 1/2 cost as merit/grant, 3 others gave him large merit/grant. More selective schools too, so I think it is the OOS thing... Perhaps kids from some further away states...or with specific sports/talents they are looking for..would do better. But if you plan to apply here...have a back up or be prepared to pay full cost minus whatever little merit they give you the week you are admitted (mostly 1-3 K unless you are from specific states that have additional merits available).
