I didn’t see a similar thread for this topic, so I thought I would start a discussion thread for Early Action applicants to the University of Virginia! I know there’s definitely some things I’ve been wanting to discuss with others. Good luck to everyone!
I’m an OOS early action applicant. 34 ACT with high GPA so I’m optimistic! Love UVA
I’m also an OOS EA applicant! I was also nominated for the Jefferson scholarship so I’m excited to see what happens with that.
I’m also an OOS applicant so that makes this entire process a bit more anxiety inducing for me. Congratulations on the scholarship nomination @rebecca12345!
@DuelingGloves yeah I totally understand. Virginians are so lucky that they get such a great flagship school. But I’m sure you’ll be fine!! And thank you! While UVA is not my first choice I would totally go if I get the scholarship.
@rebecca12345: If you get the Jefferson, you’ll go farther than UVA, and it is the intent. If you have the thrust, enthusiasm, demonstrated leadership and intellectual breadth and scope to earn that scholarship…well, good luck to you. Prepare for the first round of interview questions: there is a thread here somewhere where the kids have shared what they were asked.
@Waiting2exhale really? I’ll definitely try to find that thread. Thank you! Hopefully I’ll have what it takes.
Hi there! Not sure if anyone checks their SIS regularly, but my daughter just checked and there is something on there that she thinks is new…at the bottom in one of the little boxes there is now something she can click on that says “view decision”. When we click on it it says to check back on Jan. 31 for the decision, which is what we expected. But she is fairly certain this “view decision” box is new. Did anyone else notice this? Is it an update or was it like that the whole time?
Same thing, I’m pretty sure it’s new, but I don’t know for certain!
@collegemomjam, couple of questions…Exactly where is the box you refer to? I can’t find anything. Wondering if they are processing in state first? are you in or out of state? any further enlightenment would be appreciated.
Also, our application shows incomplete due to mid year grade report. It says it is due 2/14. We applied EA. Does this mean anything?
I have the box as well. I’m instate if that helps at all.
The “view decision” box stuff happens every year. Nothing to read into. It just means the file is complete on our side of the system and is moving into the file review pipelines. We won’t be done until late January.
The mid-year report is covered in the applications instructions. See the “After Your Submit” section here: http://admission.virginia.edu/admission/instructions

@BigPapiofthree The box is in the little one row chart under Admissions at the bottom of the page, 5th column. But as mentioned in the post above me, it just means they have everything. And we all have the incomplete note because of mid-years. My daughter is OOS but doesn’t sound like there is a rhyme or reason to the order…probably just marking them complete as they review the files one by one. Hope this helps.
Here’s what it looks like: http://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/2012/11/three-sis-status-terms-to-know.html
@Dean J
Hi, my mid year report won’t be available until late-January, right near the notification date. Is this OK (since my application is showing as incomplete like @BigPapiofthree )? Should I send in first quarter grades, which are finalized?
I don’t know if you should send in quarter grades or not, but the mid year report information is posted on the website under “After you submit” http://admission.virginia.edu/admission/instructions
Source: I asked the same question earlier and Dean J gave me that information.
@RocketsandMoons8 thanks for the link.
and oops, didn’t even see that Dean J had already answered my question with this link: http://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/
Sorry!!
I think they are NOT expecting to have mid-years for everyone for EA, but that’s OK. I think everyone who is still in the game when mid-years are available should send them, even if you have already been admitted EA just because they probably still want to see them to make sure you are still performing. And obviously if you were deferred or are RD you would need to send them, too.
Does anyone know if you can still participate in the jefferson scholarship if you’re OOS and your school isn’t one of the ones listed?
Since mid year reports are due by February 14, can’t I just wait and send my mid year report until after I receive my decision?
