So many great state schools in CA!! You are lucky @gratefulmama
@jwkjwy - My D is getting a FB diploma - which some universities give incoming credit (similar to IB) but in French.
@collegemomjam and @DevilStick - Thanks. She got into a couple oos schools that she would have loved to attend that were equally great, but hard to justify the difference in cost considering…
My son had a similar dilemma in deciding between UVa or attending another college with a substantial scholarship. He is instate so the cost of UVa is manageable for us but the obviously the lure of a going to another school and saving 50k over 4 years is tempting.
But in the end, he just felt like UVa would carry more weight post-graduation, with both employers and grad schools. Plus he just liked and felt most comfortable with UVa and Charlottesville.
Also, while we had encouraged him to take a shot at top tier private schools, he really wasn’t interested… He figured stay in state public school for undergrad and he could always go somewhere different for grad school… So if your child thinks they are going to go beyond a 4 year degree it might be worth mentioning that scenario to them.
So my advice is if all things are equal in the overall quality of the school and the program your child plans on enrolling in, then stay in state.
Hi, @willbetternextd, due Monday! Has your D decided where to spend the next 4 years?
@jwkjwy , not yet, and on top of school decision, she needs to figure out how many years (4 for art and science vs 6 for pharmacy) to spend if she chooses Rutgers. How about you?
True, @willbetternextd, same here. #-o #-o
@jwkjwy just follow your heart and decide. I will let you know her decision once I make the deposit, hopefully soon.
Just scrolling back to page 33 and 34, … wow, many OOS UVA admits. Are you guys all going and paying full OOS tuition?
D officially and painfully declined oos offer today, hopefully making someone on the waitlist very happy. Really hard decision but 100k more over 4 yrs vs our in-state didn’t make sense. Too bad the public schools can’t have a program where they can trade with other in-state applicants if they have two willing applicants. A college swap of sorts.
@gratefulmama So sorry to hear that was the choice that had to be made. Good luck to your D!
S declined UVA today. Good luck to the waitlisters.
Past decision day, but we are OOS and paying full freight. My D’s other top choices were UCLA, Berkeley and Michigan (all full-pay OOS). So UVA is a little less expensive than those 3. We will make it work and our in-state school was low on her list & it is only 20 minutes from home. I am a UVA alum and happy with her decision!
