University of virginia regular decision 2024

Wait we think decisions are being released tonight??

yes, dean J said they will be! yay!

Wow that’s crazy I wasn’t mentally prepared for this hahaha good luck everyone! Do we know what time?

If you believe this Dean J lady, but what does she know?

Yes, decisions will be released tonight as Dean J and UVA announced.

Please read the blog post. Everything is spelled out there.

Hey all, I’ve also just posted some admission statistics to provide a little context: https://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/2020/03/unofficial-uva-2020-regular-decision.html

Sorry I am little late to game about checking UVA discussion page… thank you so much!!

Not sure I can handle a rejection from my top choice school in addition to everything else going on…Please be some good news!

As always, many thanks to Dean J for the timely and informative posts. For those that didn’t click on this link… only 8% of deferred students offered admission. So… my kid will check Portal after 5, but definitely not getting their hopes up, and glad they’ve been accepted elsewhere. 8%… yikes!

@napolia same!! pretty anxious but trying not to keep my hopes up. i finally got the chance to visit for the first time recently (post-deferral) and it got me all excited haha. now i’m probably getting rejected tonight. it’ll be a bummer if i get bad news, but I am glad Dean J shared the stats with everyone early so we can think realistically leading up to the portal update.

I hope that seeing the data in advance helps students manage expectations as they go to check. I used to post the stats several days after the release, but I don’t think that was quite as helpful. I’m open to feedback on the timing. Do you think knowing them in advance is helpful?

I think so. Of course, finding out decisions from any college is stressful, but having that info really helps. For people who don’t want to see ahead of time, don’t click the link. For those where that info is really helpful, you have a great outlet.

Well done!

hey! Do you know if more deferred students from in state or OOS were offered admission?

does anyone understand the waiting list? i was surprised to see there is a waiting list formed prior to regular decision announcements. i thought at this point there would only be a deferred list.

With regular decision you are either admitted, denied or waitlisted

Deferral is when early applicants are moved to RD so midyear grades can be considered and more about the pool is known.

There’s nothing to defer to during RD. Instead, students are offered the option of joining the waiting list. This was under the waiting list stats on the blog:

Thanks very much Dean J. The waiting list forms prior to Regular Decision announcements? I assume this must be the case since you published a 17% acceptance rate for this year. Is there also a waiting list post RD ?

Well, Dean J. I guess you are seeing the down side of posting the stats early!
For folks that are asking about the waiting list…
Individual students are not going to be able to see if their decision status until 5pm today, but UVA Admissions knows it, and they know exactly how many students are in each category.
Regular Decision is the last major decision point. Their have been two previous rounds. Early Decision and Early Action. Now they add the kids accepted during Regular Decision, and they have their final counts
Accepted
Denied
Waitlisted
As of this evening, any student that logs into their portal will only see one of those three decisions.
If they are Denied, they don’t need to do anything else.
If they are Accepted, then have until May to decide if they want to enroll, and they have to indicate that.
If they are Waitlisted, they need to tell UVA if they want to be kept on the waiting list.

I just want to say, despite the fact that it seemed to cause a bit of confusion, I think posted the stats early on the day of the release is a great idea, Dean J! Thanks for everything!

We offer certain students the option of being on the waiting list. They have the option of saying yes or no. Some already have offers they’re excited about and decline. Some opt-in at first, but they remove themselves during the month of April as they get excited about the offers they already have.
