University of Virginia Undergrad Architecture Program

Does anyone have any thoughts on UVA's undergraduate architecture program. I know that it is a pre-professional program and my 17 year old son has been accepted to UVA and a few other BARCH programs(didn't apply to VT, probably should have)?

Hi JM64, congratulations to your s! I have a 17 yr. old future arch son, too.
(He will be at VT in the fall) I hope you get more information on here from some of the knowledgeable folks that frequent this forum. I learned a lot from them over the last year.

From what son learned as he researched programs and colleges, UVa's reputation is extremely good in the arch field. As you stated they are not a 5 year BARCH program, but that is not a bad thing at all. It just depends on what the student wants. After your guy gets his degree from UVA, he will be able to get into many great graduate programs. I have even read that a number of arch grads from UVA go on to get their MARCH I from VT, so maybe our kids will someday run into each other! BTW, there is a site, Archinect - Making Architecture More Connected (since 1997), that someone on here recommended to us awhile ago. It is chock full of info for those interested in architecture. Best wishes to your son.
