University of Washington Admissions Chances?

Hi UW is my dream school can I have a current UW student tell me my chances? Preferably not a alumni because back then UW was easier to get into, now that UW is more selective I would like a current UW student to answer this.

Unweighted GPA: 3.56
Weighted: 3.6

ACT: 21
SAT: (hopefully im thinking) an 1100 I got a tutor so I think I did good.

No AP classes, 3 honors classes.
I have good extracurriculars, yearbook, key club (130 service hours), ViSA (1 year), local cancer foundation (3 years).

My essay is really good.

So what are my chances do you think?

Although I am not a current student, I am applying there this year, and as a result have done a lot of research.

-For GPA you are a little bit on the lower end, as they only consider unweighted.

-Both a 21 and an 1100 ACT would make it a reach, you want to aim for at least a 25 on the ACT, and a 1200 on the new SAT.

-Your course load is definitely going to work against you, as your lower GPA could’ve been explained as a result of rigorous classes.

-Your EC’s seem fine, and a good essay will also help, since they are pretty holistic with their decisions.

-Are you in state or out of state? Because that can be determining factor, as out of state students will have a harder time getting in, as it is a state school.

In conclusion, University of Washington Seattle is definitely going to be a reach school.

Thank You,

I am out of state. I do understand my test scores, GPA, and coursework is bringing me down. Do you think if I got a 1200 or above on my SAT that it would change from a reach school to a good possibility? Because I feel like everything about my application is amazing except the coursework and my test scores. My GPA isn’t that bad but it’s ok. So do you think if I got a 1200 on the SAT it would help a lot?

@Mnoor17

Yes a 1200, would definitely increase you chances, but even then it would still be considered a reach. However with amazing essays and 1200 it would be more of a 50/50, or match.

Hey I’m from Washington state and my family has been involved with UW for quite along time. From what I understand is that UW doesn’t necessarily base their decision of what your gpa is. There is a lot of other factors. For example my high school is one of the best in Washington state and uw recruits our students heavily (I think 40 people got accepted last year from my school). So just because your GPA isn’t at the “average” doesn’t mean it’s necessarily a reach. I know a lot of people who got in with 3.2. Best of luck to you!!

@Mnoor17 Hi, just an update I got a 1080 on my SAT :(. But ok I have another question, to update you because I feel I was vague on my stats. Even though I have a 3.56 GPA which is bad, I forgot to mention that I’ve never had a C, D, or F. I’ve only had A’s or B’s does this matter? Then also another thing I noticed was this: My freshman, sophomore GPA was a 3.76. Then my junior GPA went down to a 3.3 which I know is horrible. Then my senior GPA is a 3.85. Do you think UW will notice this? I remember why my junior GPA was horrible. Many things were going on that year and one of which included LGBT and the other one was I have a sickness where I have a lack of white blood cells so I get sick way more often than normal. I never mentioned this in my application and I’m worried because I never explained myself they will deny me. What do you think I should do?

if they reject you you can appeal it with an explanation for your junior year gpa, if they accept appeals

They have a place in their application where you can explain such things, it’s the optional writing section, hopefully you took advantage of this.
