I am a iranian-american and i was born and raised in washington. Im currently a senior in high school however i am in the running start program since junior year until now. I will probably receive 85-90 college credits once i graduate high school and i might get my AA degree as well (if i do end up getting all 90 credits) when i graduate high school. My goal is to work in the medical field and i know university of washington provides one of the best medical programs in the nation. I really hope i get into University of washington as it is my dream school and i cant imagine living anywhere else.

High school GPA: 3.45

College GPA: 3.5

ACT: 26

I also volunteer a lot at Harborview Hospital which is partnered with University of washington. I also volunteer at a health organization called International Medical teams. Im also starting to volunteer at Group Health as well. Overally i have a lot of volunteer hours.

Im hoping i can get into University of washington and i need to know how good my chances are.

Oh, I’m sorry, she might not be a US citizen.

Seattlefc, are you?

I think your extracurricular is excellent. Your GPA is lower than their avarage but ACT is right in the middle. Keep working hard and raise your GPA. But you sound like a good candidate for UW.

I’m guessing that OP is a Washington resident. There are very few Iranians in the US who aren’t citizens or permanent residents. That kind of arises from the fact that we haven’t had diplomatic relations with the country for over 30 years.

yep i am a US citizen i was born and raised in washington state. im also volunteering a lot at 2 different hospitals as well as a health organization as well. im just really scared that i might not get accepted to university of washington and i hope i can get into it.

You might get in, but you might not. So, you definitely need at least a couple of other alternatives.

For state schools look at Evergreen State, Western Washington, and maybe WSU (unless you take their sports rivalry with UW seriously). Also look into some of the private schools like University of Puget Sound, Whitworth University, and Seattle University.

Oregon has some good colleges too. Lewis and Clark, for example, and University of Portland. No reason to not look at Oregon State and U.of.Oregon too.

Highly recommend that you apply to at least five colleges, total, and preferably more like seven. In order to apply to that many, you should look seriously at double that number. So, seriously look into at least ten colleges. It will be worth the time.

@NROTCgrad those are good options too but its just my dream to get into UW so would you know how good my chances would be though?
I volunteer a lot at different hospitals such as harborview hospital (partnered with UW) as well as group health, and international medical teams so im not sure if that helps.

@Seattlefc - The middle 50% ACT scores for UW are 25 to 30. Which means that your ACT score is higher than more than 25% of the freshmen at UW, although yours are below average. Your GPA is probably a little below average for UW too, but all things considered I think you have a very good chance – but not close to guaranteed, which is why you need to apply to some other schools. I hope that you get in. You just need a backup plan.

@NROTCgrad thanks so much for your comment, i feel a little better now since i know i have a good chance of getting in. Getting accepted to UW would mean the world to me and i would be so happy if it happens
