I'm planning to major in nursing in college. I'm wondering which school would be better to go to for nursing-- UW or SU. I received a scholarship from SU ($9000/yr.) and have been accepted into its nursing program. UW's nursing program is very hard to get into and its out-of-state tuition is high. Both schools have excellent nursing programs but UW has more prestige than SU.

Should I go to SU or challenge myself at UW?

I would say, go with "the bird in the hand", which is to say SU. It's a very good school, and you already accepted in the nursing program. The campus is lovely, and I've heard nothing but good about the academics. It will be a challenge wherever you go, and I think SU will have smaller classes in general, and more individualized attention from teachers, academic counseling staff etc. Good luck, and let us know your final decision!

Thanks for the thoughtful reply Moominmama! I only hear good things about SU as well. SU has been my top choice for the past month and I'm sure I will go there!

Kogeo, you are welcome! Have you had the opprotunity to visit the SU campus? If not, you are in for a treat. The landscaping is fabulous, and it has one of my favorite buildings in the world, the Chapel of St. Ignatius. It looks a little odd from the outside, but inside, the spaces and they way they are defined and changed by light during the day is amazing. I am not a religeous person, but this is a very spiritual place. Here's a link to some pictures: http://www.seattleu.edu/chapel/

kogeo, are there any issues that are important to u that would make studying nursing in a catholic setting either an asset or liability? the northwest is strong on issues like death with dignity or reproductive rights. u might want to know SU's stand on various issues. congrats on your acceptances and the su scholarship. good luck w/yr decision

I was torn between UW and SU (though not for the nursing program) and have found SU is a fabulous school with a gorgeous campus - I have decided to go there this fall. Another thing for you to consider is that there are about 5 or more hospitals within a couple blocks of SU's campus - perfect for internships and career placement!

Thanks for the replies everyone! They really help. I'll make sure not to spend too much on shopping in Broadway :) I never had the chance to visit SU or UW. I'm also not a religious person-- but I've heard it doesn't matter too much whether you're Catholic or not to attend SU. But looking at SU's nursing curriculum, there's great emphasis on religious courses so it would be a good idea to learn SU's stand on religious issues.
