University of Washington transfer chances

Hi,

I'm from Illinois and currently taking classes at my local community college. In high school I had some serious personal/family issues that made me barely graduate and have a poor, poor GPA. After a 2 year hiatus I'm taking my second semester at CC and wondering about my transfer chances to UW next year.

High school -

(I don't have my transcript on me and am estimating roughly)

~1.5 GPA (though I did take and pass a few AP classes)
- 30 on the ACT
- No extracurriculars

I was advised to take a broad range of classes in CC due to my poor GPA so there isn't a set program I've been going towards yet. Also, as I work full time I haven't been able to be a full time student.

By the end of the spring semester I'll have taken 8 classes with roughly 30 credit hours.

Current GPA - 3.6 (I am confident I can bring this up a bit more)
No extracurriculars (due to working I simply don't have additional time for these)

How would my chances be? I'd be the first person in my family to go to college, for what it's worth. The majors I'm most interested in are non-competitive or slightly competitive.

If you all need more information I'll try and gather it ASAP and update it.

Thanks.

Hey @makilio‌!

I too am curious about my acceptance chances. I just applied to the University of Washington for Winter 2015, and am very nervous.
I applied after 60 credits, with only a 3.30 GPA :frowning:
What I’ve read and heard from many transfers/advisors is that UW gives the upper hand to in state transfers. Many of the CCs in WA have DTA (direct transfer agreements);therefore, students only need to get a certain GPA and they’ll be admitted.
I would just recommend you writing a very good essay, I know of a few out of state transfers with 3.7+ GPAs that were rejected, but that’s just them! Goodluck.
