Hey guys. I’m a freshman at WSU and plan on doing mechanical or aerospace engineering. I had a 3.2 in high school so I didn’t bother applying to UW. I just finished my first semester and got a 3.54, with a B in calculus and B+ in Chemistry (105, not the high school equivalent) and an A in 2 history classes and an introductory engineering course. I did debate team in high school, that is about it as far as extracurricular activities. I’m a strong writer and would likely have a very strong essay. My parents aren’t helping me pay for much so I don’t want to waste 80 bucks applying if I don’t stand a chance. Anyone have any idea on my odds? Thanks in advance for any advice
If you are applying while still only in your freshman year and from another four-year university, to be honest, you likely won’t be admitted. You have a few things going against you - mainly that the priority for transfer is WA community college students and secondly that they only want students ready to come into their major as juniors. If you really don’t like WSU and are serious about transferring to UW, I’d recommend finishing this year and spending your sophomore year taking all of the remaining Engineering pre-reqs at your local WA community college.
The admission rate for four-year college transfers is usually 15%, whereas it is closer to 50% (or higher) for WA community college transfers.
Hope this helps!
