Alright so I am stuck between two schools as we speak.
I am planning on doing business at either school (preferable int'l business in the future).
At Miami I will be paying about 31k a year and at UW I will be paying about 39k a year.
At Miami, I am already in their school of business while at UW I didn't get into their Foster program as a freshman and will have to apply later on.
I don't know what school to choose.
I love the environment of Seattle for I am into fashion and love the city life and party life and nature and academics all in one.
I am also an artsy fellow and love artsy/hipster-esque women LOL.
Which school would suit me better!?

Seattle has always been threatening to take the crowning title of hipster capital of the world from Portland, so you’ll probably love it at the UW in that regard.

The school of business is one of the more competitive majors, and their acceptance rate is at least below 50%, but if you’re a driven high-achieving student you won’t have too much to worry about in that regard.

I haven’t ever actually been to Florida (though I know those who have), but I can tell you on the whole that the East coast, especially Miami is very, very different from the Pacific Northwest and Seattle, Washington (they’re on the opposite corners of the US!). If you really dig the outdoorsy city live here, then you really couldn’t go wrong.

Thank you very much for the advice!
Yeah the only thing stopping me from going to UW is whether or not I will get into their Foster because I don’t know what I will major in if I don’t get in
plus I’m getting no money from UW. ugh

I do have almost a full ride to SeattleU (Albers) but that is much less prestigious I feel like and I feel I won’t get the same experience as what will go down at UW.
I also have Boston University as an option (already in their B program) but it’s at 41k a year ;

Hipster chicks are everywhere. They love cupcakes and green pizza. If you get them either they will adore you.

" Into fashion" is not seattle (unless fashion is socks with sandals). U Miami will have greater emphasis on what label you flaunt (Tory Tori? Birch Burch? -sorry, I’m a seattleite). Kids at miami go to the local bar scene to party. A lot of money there. Not at all “hipsteresque”. Go read some of the reviews on the women at college *******.

Nature, hipster, less emphasis on money and clothes: choose seattle. Excellent business school at UW, if you can get in. Both schools should provide a good general education, although be aware that intro classes at UW will likely be much larger than at miami.

Of course, the cost of your education and ability to get into the major are very important issues. But, if you are trying to compare the atmosphere at the two schools… You couldn’t find a bigger contrast imo.

Also, you need to factor in the costs to live/socialize at miami. Without a car, I think you need to take taxis to get to where the bars are. And going out is not cheap.

Thank you for your response.
I am still stuck though.
I am going to try my best to schedule a flight out to Miami before May 1st.

Okay, asked my friend from Seattle who decided to go to U of Miami and she thinks it’s fabulous. She says all of her friends are “Japs” Jewish-American Princesses, and that she loves it there with the different cultures and weather. She is also Akkadian, so I think maybe it’s in her genes to prefer the heat.

FBG, I think it’s a good idea to visit. That should help you get a good idea of the social scene and variety of students at the school. Good luck with your decision. Again, i think you will get an excellent education at either school.

which weather would you prefer? or is it equal?

For me, there is nothing that could get me to go to school in miami. I lived in Florida for four years…I cannot stand how hot and humid it is. ick. But obviously that’s just my personal opinion…there are LOTS of people who just LOVE florida

There’s a reason that Florida is the only place the Spanish ever gave up without a fight.

Reputation wise, UW > UM i think, even with the 8k difference. Hipster/artsy girls at UW/seattle abound

I’m an incoming UW student (well, pending transfer of my NROTC scholarship first) and live in Tampa currently, which is somewhat similar to Miami just on a much smaller scale. Personally, I hate Florida, which is part of why I’ve chosen to make an epic 3K mile trip to the opposite corner of the continental US for school. Most of the reason I dislike Florida is the weather, which is constantly hot and humid. I’m actually looking forward to the overcast skies of Seattle as a nice change from the scorching weather I experience around here all the time. Sure, Tampa (and Miami by extension) may have nice beaches, but that doesn’t make up for essentially not having seasons, which sucks. XaviFM is right about the Spanish leaving Florida without a fight, it adds up when you factor in the mosquitos, etc.

So I guess my point is, when making your decision don’t automatically chalk up a win for the University of Miami in terms of weather. It’s not all it’s cracked up to be.

By the way, I’m totally with you on the hipster girls…haha.

@StreetsAhead: you’ll love Seattle.
