I was waitlisted at Udub and wanted to make this for people in the same situation.
I was waitlisted too :(. What are your stats?
I was waitlisted as well! I wonder when we’ll hear back…
I was wait listed as well.
I have an unweighted GPA of 3.97
ACT score: 28
SAT score: 1350
5 AP classes
5 honors classes
VP of student body
Varsity Basketball
Officer of my schools robotics club
I am in state and a girl planning on majoring in mechanical engineering.
Do you think I have a decent chance at being accepted off the wait list. I’m worried because I got a B+ in ap Calc. However I did get an A in ap physics. And I’ve heard that people who appeal get a decision sooner. Should I appeal?
It looks like you’re a super strong candidate! I was wondering the same about appealing, but I think our best bet is just waiting. Only about 1 in 20 people make it through the appeal process. AND if you appeal now, you can’t appeal later. If you were to wait instead of appealing and for some reason you didn’t get off the waitlist, you will still be able to appeal after that rejection. You can only appeal once, so save it for when it’s absolutely necessary!
Good point! We start hearing about wait list decisions after May 1st right?
I believe the acceptance period is May 15th-August 1st, but last year everyone was contacted by mid-June at the latest. I was able to talk to an admissions counselor about the waitlist process and he told me this:
“There is no list of students in line to be selected from the waitlist. The review process for waitlist students includes reviewing the application as if it were the first time. The decision to offer or not can depend on a few things, including residency, the strength of the student’s application, and the quality of his or her senior year performance and coursework. The better student’s senior year performance, the better the chance of being invited from the waitlist- if we offer from the waitlist at all. We will not consider additional transcripts or letters of recommendation. All we need and will accept is the completed waitlist confirmation form.”
So the best thing to do for now is work your butt off and pray that spots open up for us!
I was thinking about sending a letter of interest. Here’s what I’m planning on sending. Should I change or add anything?
To whom it may concern,
My name is --------. I have applied to UW as a freshman looking to major in Mechanical Engineering and was placed on the waitlist. The University of Washington is my top choice and if accepted I will accept.
I am confident I would be a great fit for UW because of my knowledge and background in robotics. I hope to join the UW community to become a part of the mechatronics research being conducted in the Mechanical Engineering department. To prepare, I have built a total of nine robots throughout my high school tenure. Six of which were for my school’s First Robotics Club. The others were a SumoBot, a four-legged walking robot, and a robotic arm. These were built this year on my own time.
I first heard about your engineering program through my great-uncle, ---------, who was at the time Dean of Engineering at UW. After hearing about this from my Great-Uncle ------, it has been my main goal to join the UW community. I know that the University of Washington would give me the greatest chance to pursue this passion for robotics to the fullest.
Is there anything else you recommend I do in order to increase my chances of earning a spot in next year’s Freshman class? Additionally, is there anyone in the engineering department that I can reach out to for assistance?
I appreciate any advice or assistance you might have in this regard. Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day. Go Huskies!
Sincerely,
Do I need to add more reasons why I am a good fit? And should I send it as a letter or an email?
Thank you for any help!
Hey, everyone, I was waitlisted as well.
I am an out of state female looking to major in civil engineering
I was in 4 AP classes,1 IB course as well as 9 honors classes
I got 1390 on the new SAT and was in a special nationally recognized STEM magnet school
I was on my school’s varsity volleyball team ad won and international title as well as was a national competitor for FBLA
How are my chances of being accepted off the waitlist?
anyone hear from the waitlist yet?
Does anyone know if they really make us wait until May 15th to hear anything regarding the waitlist? Does anyone have any friends that were waitlisted last year? When did they hear?
I’m really hoping I don’t have to wait until May 15th or after to hear back… anyone know any more details about the Waitlist? Do they accept/deny in waves? What about in-state students, do they hear first? Is the waitlist ranked?
My friend in California heard a week ago.
do they email you or update the portal?
Still haven’t heard
Haven’t heard.
Uw gets back to waitlisters may 15-august 1 via email
Has anyone heard how many people are on the waitlist or how many spots they have?
@Snicker1 - I tried calling the admissions office and they won’t give out any details. They said that starting on Monday, the 15th, they will start sending letters in the mail…this wait is killing me!
Thanks for the update. I hope they have good information for us.
