Any parents here with s or d applying to the University of Washington? If so; how are things going? What other schools are they applying to?

My daughter just received her acceptance to the University of Washington recently. She has also been accepted to University of Oregon, Knox and Purdue. She is waiting to hear from Willamette, Lewis & Clark, UC Santa Cruz, Cal Poly SLO and Northeastern. How about your son or daughter?

Momofonly - if you feel comfortable, would you mind sharing your daughter's stats?

Sure, Carolyn. She had a 3.99 academic unweighted GPA, not-so-great SAT of 1200 (she didn't practice :) ). Top 10-12% of her class. She did NOT take the most rigorous courses available to her...just Honors English in 9th, 10th and 11th and took Algebra II/Trig in 9th, Math Analysis in 10th and Math Methods IB in 11th. She is now doing independent study and will be taking Calculus at the community college in January.

Carolyn,

I forgot to say that D's UC GPA is 3.77. It will be very interesting to see what happens with her Santa Cruz application because of the GPA and the fact that she wrote (and insisted on sending) a really risky essay.

My D applied in mid November and was accepted first week of December. We live in Ca. She is also applying to three UC's, USC, BC, and several "reach" schools-public and private- on the east coast. She has a brother and sister who both attend UW and have had great experiences. She, however, is serious about looking everywhere before deciding.

A bit off subject, but if you are contemplating a visit to check out UW, I highly recommend The Watertown Hotel in the University District. My son was accepted to UW last year, and we stayed at the Watertown on our visit. You can read reviews on tripadvisor.com. It is a short walk to the University and has some great extras. We had a free computer cart in our room, so I could surf to find out what was going on in Seattle and to stay up-to-date on CC. We had a great visit at UW, but ultimately, son did not choose it as his school.
