University of West Florida MT Program?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any information about the Musical Theatre program at the University of West Florida. I've searched through this forum and the regular theatre major forum and all the information there is outdated and usually doesn't say much about the program, so I was wondering if anyone here has any current information about MT at UWF. I know there are other schools that do require an audition in Florida, but I will not be able to attend any of these because I live on a military installation overseas and none of them offer the option of auditiong by videotape. I've looked at schools that do allow a video audition, but none of them have really appealed to me the way UWF has. Any information would be greatly appreciated as I've already made the mistake of attending a college that wasn't right for me and I don't want that to happen again.

Thanks so much :)!

I currently attend UWF and I can tell you some things about the new Musical Theatre program here at UWF! I can’t believe UWF is even mentioned on here! :)

I am an “aspiring BFA” as they call it around here…Basically the process to get into the program is that you audition at the end of your freshman year(or in my case junior year)…The fall semester of the freshman year you take a basic music theory class and in the spring, take Musical Theatre Voice class…This is all to prepare you for the BFA audition at the end of the year which will consist of 1 monologue, and 1 or 2 songs. I don’t believe there is a dance part of the audition (but the BFA requires you to take about 4 dance classes)…The first recipient (class of one) of the BFA in Musical Theatre is graduating this year (MT '11) and we have very talented people in the program already…I have always been amazed at how much talent is at UWF! Once accepted into the program, every fall there will be a night of musical theatre scenes that all of the BFA’s perform in and a BFA concert in the spring…There might be a senior showcase regionally but I don’t think they can afford to have a showcase in NY just yet…The program may not be as competitive as other schools because the program is so new…I don’t know if there are video auditions…If you want, you can get in contact with Leah Arington, who is in charge of the Musical Theatre program, at larington@uwf.edu
