Ok, so for anyone who is reading this, thank you for taking the time :) This is my first post on the site. Well im a junior in highschool, and after this junior year ends, ill end up with a 3.7 (weighted) for sure with a slight chance of getting a 3.8 (weighted). I want to go to the University of Wisconsin Madison for pre med, and ill probly do bio-chem, if not i may go to Loyola for my pre med. Do u think i have a good shot at those schools? My ACT btw is a 29, and im taking it again in a week to hopefully get over a 30, i feel confident. I have taken rigorous classes throughout the years. As of clubs, im in a few, but not over the top, and i havent done any community service but over the summer imma do a ton and do more before i start applying. Also, when are u supposed to start to get letters of rec from teachers? is it during senior year before you apply? What other shcools aroung the midwest (im from Illinois) are good for premed and i can get into, and please dont say U of I, lol, not my type. I know that's a lot of questions and thank you for ur time :)

UW-Madison is increasingly hard to get into. Your GPA is good but your ACT is a little low, at least for an out-of-state applicant. I don’t think you need “over the top” ECs but I think that writing a good essay will help. Good luck!

So do u think Loyola would be a good college for me to get into, are my chances good? what about the university of iowa for premed?

You would definitely be in at Iowa or Loyola with those stats. I would also consider Miami (Ohio) or Indiana-Bloomington. Indiana is large school, but with a beautiful campus - much prettier than UIUC. Miami is a gorgeous campus with about half the students as the big flagships (15,000)

I know Miami has an extremely high placement rate for medical school - its zoology program is well regarded and very intense. With your stats, you would have a nice automatic merit scholarship at either Miami or Indiana.

My DS is just finishing his freshman year at Miami. We was accepted to Miami, Indiana and Wisconsin. However, with a 3.8 and a 30 he was initially postponed at Wisconsin, but eventually admitted in March. While Madison is possible, you need to have an alternative.

Cbear has some very good advice. Don’t count on UW and there are other good choices out there including Iowa, Miami and Indiana. All have an attractive campus and a nice college town although IMHO Oxford(town) is a bit too small. The rest are great.

Thank you so much guys!
